Maybe make a trim level like the (gulp!) GTS trim?
You could have a Targa Dakar.
A Cabriolet Dakar.
And, gulp, even a GTS Dakar. Which would be what? The ultimate offroad sweetspot?

Bothers me that they'll only make 2500. They will almost all be in collections. I would love one and for a reasonable adm that's within 10% of the car, I'd drive it like I stole it on gravel roads daily. As a former WRX owner I've been wanting an actually -capable dirt racer. I'd trade my GT3 in for this any day. Way more fun if you can't afford $800 track insurance every track day.
Unfortunately only YouTube car reviewers will get to have fun with this car. I'll get trashed and hold my sim racing wheel while I watch their videos.
Then I'll go buy an old lancia for half the price lol.

2,500 cars is not such a small number for all of them to be locked away in a private collection. I would think at least some percentage of them are going to be driven.

Remember that the 991 RS are about 6-7000 and they are commonplace at trakdays, also the 991 Touring are less than 2000 overall but you see a few with high mileage being driven... like mine.
I plan to put at least 10k per year on my Dakar.

My Dakar
Getting close to finalise my configuration.
I will probably go for the simplest and most classical white-on-black.
For my intended use shall be a bit sporty looking but not attracting too much attention.
Will have the confy seats for long journeys and a good deal of daily use.
Not the most attention grabbing, but who is in the knowledge will recognise.
A few carbon fibre accents inside and out will help make it a little special.
Probably the most boring configuration you can come up with ... but I already have a speedyellow 911 ...for special days and track use.

I spec’ed mine out with the Rallye Package, about a 251k MSRP. It’s fun, it’s different and it’s super cool!
Any good leads for an allocation dealer in the tri-state NYC area? I have reached out to the couple I work with, waiting to hear if they have an allocation.

On the other hand I believe the white rims were the sporty option in the 1980s.

The :"Dakar" should just be called "The Cars and Coffee Special" - but that may be a little long for a logo on the rear....because people who buy these are never going to take them off the blacktop.
Except in the Middle East, where they do the crazy sand dune jumping thing for fun with their toys and will destroy them in short order. Nothing like sand to terminate a machine. Also, I can't wait for the Raptor-like videos of those that jump the car for You Tube and Tik Tok vids, and blow the car apart, then claim a warranty repair for failure to hold up to the advertising.
