Hi guys,

I hope you can give me good advice. I traded in my 992 CS for a Taycan 4s.
Because of all the discussions about the climate crisis, I changed my mind about the 992 and thought that the Taycan is a very good alternative

Due to a recall for the Taycan, because of a flat battery/car while driving , I wanted to cancel the order but had to pay 5000 euros to the dealer.
After only having driven 500 km, I miss the 911 enormously. It's really nothing but my wife's Model S in a Porsche jacket.

what should I do?

ask the dealer if I can get my old 911 back? Order a new 992 and trade in the Taycan or take my loss and keep driving the Taycan for a bit longer?

I hadn't realized that owning a 911 is much more special than owning a Taycan.

So anyone who has doubts about going electric... Don't do it!!

I think you know the answer. Chalk it up to experience - this lesson just happened to be expensive. I did the same but in reverse. I had a Model S Performance that I really tried to like but sold that in less than a year and ordered a 992 C2S - should be arriving in February.

I love the Taycan. I recently put 430 miles on a Taycan 4S loaner while the 911 was being serviced. I briefly flirted with the idea of the swap, but when I hopped back in my 992 C4S, I just couldn’t imagine giving the 911 experience up. We may well add a Taycan to the household at some point, but I am not giving up my 911 to do so.

If your dealer hasn’t already sold your car, I would see if you could finagle getting it back. It may cost you, but the demand is also so high for Taycan’s that the dealer might be willing to do it. Good luck!

I don't have a clue why anybody who likes sports cars is buying EVs right now. Now if you're an environmentalist and want something that makes you feel better about that, then it's all good.

But otherwise.....we are going to be FORCED to buy these things in 2035. So I ain't buying one for a LOOOOOONG time. I love my 911. I want to hear it sing. I love the flat 6 and I love the smell of its exhaust after a spirited drive.

I was an early adopter and bought an Audi E-Tron, drove it for 15 months. It's nice, but oh-so-heavy as are all electric cars. The makers try to overcome this by adding power and bigger brakes, but weight is weight, and you can't fight physics. I finally sold it and have never missed it, Plus the range sucked @ 200 miles, and unless your idea of a good time is sitting in a Wal Mart parking lot for 20 minutes charging, its useless as a trip vehicle. Note that Porsche has steadfastly insisted the 911 will never be all electric, and that's because it won't be the same car, and also far too heavy. I think time will see the weight come out of electric cars and also improved charging areas + range, but its not there yet.

Ditch the Taycan. Get a new 911.

The Taycan is a great car. And I mean a great car. But it is not a substitute or replacement for a 911.

Why don't you keep your delivery of the Taycan and sell it for MSRP once you get it. Right now even those cars are going for MSRP or a little better. I am sure you can at least not loose 5K.

Or alternatively trade it in once you get it for a 992 or whatever you want. With the market on cars being unprecedented right now, why not take delivery and decide what you want to do.

PS. My buddy next door to me, has a few 911s (a 991.2 Turbo S, and a older 911) he also bought a Taycan Turbo S (or whatever the top variant is) and uses it for his daily family car and loves it. Probably because he has a few cars to scratch a few needs. But he loves it, and raves about it (he also had a Tesla Model S before the Taycan - raves about the fit and finish, being much better in the Porsche, etc.) So assuming Porsche will fix the recall (of course) - who is to say you might not like it when you get it. If not - trade it or sell it outright privately.

There is nothing wrong with "going electric", as long as its "done right". It doesn't seem like you did.

I'd trade my daily S4 for a Taycan all day and twice on sunday.

But not the 911.

Had a Taycan 4S as a loaner for two days while my 992 was in for service. Great loaner, but loved getting my C2S back afterward. See if you can get an allocation for another 992. I’m confident that you can swing the difference in price. The average 911 buyer makes $600k a year. Eat the $5k-$10k and deal with it. As Worm said, it’s only money.

Order a GTS, Turbo or Turbo S

That way you can better justify changing cars and look forward to something a little different from your old one.

Ether way - dump the Taycan and move on. There is no point in wasting time with a car you don’t love.

Order a new 992, which will take several months to arrive with allocations and all.
Keep driving the Taycan for work or errands until it's time to trade it in, and be prepared to eat a decent sized loss. That's life.
Meanwhile buy a cheapo 2-door Porsche to scratch the fun car itch on weekends or whenever you don't need a bigger car. 987 Boxster, or 996.

I think you could get what you paid or a bit more for the Taycan if sold privately Then get in line for a 992...which might come quicker if you take a Cayenne, Macan or Panamera off a dealer's hand while waiting.

FWIW, my wife and I had a Taycan 4S as a weekend test driver a few months back. Took it back a day early. We both found it an interesting engineering exercise bit too big and WAY too heavy to be an enjoyable daily ride. The new Boxster/Cayman - if they can keep it to 3500-3600 lb - will be the next time I look at an electric Porsche.
