Sports Response Button

Today, I used the sports response button while driving at 70mp on the highway. My wife was freakin out because we were fast approaching our exit, and there was no openings in the traffic to be able to move right, two lanes, into the exist lane. I said, “calm down, nothing to worry about” while I hit the button. I moved into the passing lane (which was open), and flew past a bunch of cars and trucks in the blink of an eye, with plenty of time and space to move into the exit lane. My wife said (for real), “that was really cool, but don’t do that again when I’m with you”.
Might I have been able to do the same maneuver without it? Maybe, maybe not….but as my wife said, “that was really cool”.

When switching from Sport to Sport+ mode, the revs climb. When driving in Sport+ mode, and you press the Sport Response button, the revs climb even further. To me, the SR button most definitely is a performance boost. The best use of the tech is when in Normal or Sport mode and you want to overtake, you just hit the button and everything is in its optimal settings, and you just go. No downshifting a manual, no flipping settings with the Sport Chrono **** or via dash (assuming this is how non SC guys change drive modes). SC is my favorite option on this car along with the SR button.....well, that and full leather. 😝

I'm not sure that this means much scientifically but I was recently doing some speed runs (controlled private environment) and got the following results:
Rolling start in Sport Plus with SRB - 157 mph
Launch with SRB - 162 mph
Launch without SRB - 162 mph
Certainly not scientific but in Sport Plus at full throttle, SRB made no difference. SRB was engaged at speed not from a stop.

I agree with your first statement. Some believe it does, other’s don’t. I can live with that.

I tested this on my 981 Boxster S and a quick blip of the throttle does kick down several gears when in normal mode and there is no associated acceleration when you do it. It's of no use for passing because you want to floor it and have it kick down for quick acceleration. Blipping it and then flooring it seems like a waste of time. However, if the 992 has this behavior as well then it will be useful for engine braking where downshifting is appropriate without getting on the brakes.

Ok I need to stop with this thread. I was out testing all these different theories this morning. On the freeway switching to sport plus, then hitting the SRB to see if I could feel a difference. Then tapping the gas pedal various amounts(this does not work) all the way to engaging the kick down. When I took an exit, some dude pulled up next to me to ask if my car was all right and do I need any help.

I was out fiddling around yesterday too. In S+ mode I hit the SRB and the revs still went way up. That clearly is proof that SRB is not just a shortcut to S+ mode.

If you are just driving normal in Sport or Normal and switch the wheel to Sport Plus it drops a few gears. Then if you hit the SRB yes the revs pick up a bit.
But if you are in Sport Plus already and you are absolutely mobbing the car, I mean getting down with it, and then hit the SRB it does absolutely nothing.

A while ago I saw a video that was testing the SRB, and they claimed it held the RPM’s longer than just putting it in sports+ mode. If so, that might explain the 20 second limit? IMO, I think there has to be some logical reason for the 20 sec limit? Either holding the revs longer, or over-boost?

Who knows what’s true??, but from the beginning, I always thought that the 20 sec limit was key to understanding what’s happening, ie, IMO there is a time limit for a technical reason:
