My car sees outdoor temps from -20F to 95F, but I don't track it.
There are many factors but the biggest driving factors are going to be cost and packaging (or marketing) of the product. It's more efficient for Porsche to develop a common architecture, particularly with increasing global regulations. Most importantly, they develop on a long-term road map, so they tend to leave gaps/opportunities and give every trim a little of this and a little of that to attract us nuts to pay more and more

Porsche has done this for a long time, and over time, you see enhancements to power slowly drip into consumers hands. The 992 delivers a ton of value regarding the powerplant. It's very stout and capable of handling power, which isn't a common thing when say nearly doubling the output with all stock components. The materials and properties used in the 9A2 EVO engine are some of the best from an OEM (much of it is shared with the Turbo/Turbo S models). This is part of the reason or rationale why we consider the Carrera such a great value in the Porsche range. There used to be a huge delta between the N/A Carreras and Turbo models in terms of power. Now, it's a much smaller gap, particularly aided with tuning and bolt-on parts. Ultimately, it comes down to individual preferences but it's nice to have the opportunity if you want to take advantage of more power. I can't recall a situation where it has ever been easier. We have nearly 8 years of learning on the major components (dating back to the 991.2) and with the amount of clients we've had beat the literal **** out of these for years at high HP on the track....we're amazed on how "bulletproof" the platforms are. I suppose that is some of the value you get with Porsche engineering, they're always more capable. I'm sure there are some one off issues and failures, every manufacturer deals with that but we have a tremendous amount of confidence in the platform and it's ability to handle power.

Kind of a an oddball question, but I figured it's worth a shot...

Seeing as your M-tuner hardware is based on the Openport 2.0, and that is a J2534 compliant device, do you have any idea if it will work with the PCSS - TSI - Virtual tester software?

I'm going to try it out with my OP2.0 when I get the car in a few weeks, but I don't know what you guys have done with the hardware/firmware (if anything) to get it working with Porsche. So I couldn't say if the results of that testing would be applicable to your hardware or not.

If the OP or your hardware is compatible I think that would be really helpful for the community to know, and make it a lot easier to DIY considering the cost of the approved equipment.

Interesting, I had tactrix collecting dust 6 years atleast. I used this in combination with evoscan / ecuflash with my evo x.

if only i could flash exhaust valve 100% open with Ecuflash or for a small cost.

We've got the same roots. I've got an 8 and a X. The Openport works with Mitsubishi's OEM software too, which is why I have some hope it might work for Porsche. That's the whole theory behind J2534 supposedly. M-tuner using it on this platform seems like a good sign.

I find it strange that porsche community isnt greater. I suppose people with money dont tinker with stuff.

Many hours would have gone into decoding tables, I think it took ecutek something like 6 people working full year if I recall correctly and we will probably never see this as open source as whole business is built from this.

I dont think M tuner has presence in Australia? I actually looked at their website yesterday. Most here are using evolve-technik. Not sure how different they are, and I may go that route due to access to dyno and support, even though m-tuner is my preference.

Ps. I had owned evo x manual for 11 years, never let me down that was reliable! Unlike 911, had injector replaced last week under warranty. Evo was brutal.. e85 and efr7670 external gates.

The ecosystem is certainly different in the P-car pond, but there is so much potential in this platform. I really hope to see it keep growing and mature as more wrenching enthusiasts get their hands on the cars. Evos are something special for sure, I don't plan on ever parting with mine. Such a shame what Mitsubishi has become.

Okay, fact that m-engineering can data logging is big win. Just means I need to do 3rd gear highway pulls..

I was looking on your website and noticed substantial more torque available on GTS.
I thought Mechanically they were same pdk ? Or has GTS have higher clamping pressure that enables more torque ?

Carrera S: Our Stage 1 tune results in an increase of approximately +146whp & +51ft-lbs tq on 93 octane.

Carrera GTS: Our Stage 1 tune results in an increase of approximately +106whp & +126ft-lbs tq on 93 octane.

Excuse my ignorance but why 3rd gear specifically?

I am no expert, but all you are doing in creating engine load and checking data, 3rd gear is quicker, and less illegal (max speed 100km/h where i live).

4th gear is easy done on dyno however on the street you need a lot more road, now you are going way beyond speed limit that police would confiscate your car for half a year and huge fines.

But then why not 1st or 2nd, is it because they will max out quicker and thus the data points will be fewer and the recording time frame shorter?

You want more data points.. sample rate was limited through obd2 when I was doing it. But again I ain't tuner I just get by and I was told do 3rd gear.

Hey guys!

Since M-Tuner has come out there have been some significant updates to the calibrations. So some of those early graphs are deprecated. The S and GTS output the same power after tuning. On our ProHub Dyno in South Florida and S/GTS on Stage 1 93 usually make around 540whp or so for final output on S/GTS. Baselines are usually in the mid/low 400's to the wheels. The power pickup is quite large, but the delta of the S is bigger because they start with a lower baseline.

When logging on the street, 3rd gears pulls are best because the top speed is not so high
When we log and do dyno pulls, we take them to the top of 5th gear which is quite high but we get a lot of data points under load.

Hey guys! Trying to keep this 992 related as best as I can. The same M-Tuner you know on 992 Carrera and Turbo has been tested extensively for a soon release on the 991.2 platform. Mitch has been hard at work on this GT2 RS Clubsport EVO in Panama performing track side calibration support. Special thanks to the team behind this and Joey at Emotion Engineering. This has OBD flashing on both the PDK and ECU side with extensive datalogging capabilities on a multitude of parameters at high logging rates. Fun stuff coming for our supported platforms as well.
