This is a standard part of the "Exclusive Design Taillight" option on the non-GTS models. I'm unsure of why it is separated on the GTS and what precisely it is.
I don't care if it has it or doesn't, but I certainly would never voluntarily pay anything extra for it. I also believe that the fancy (Chrome Look) Gas Cap and the "PORSCHE" Door Puddle Lights fall into this exact same category.

What look is it you don't love? The video didn't actually show anything and the screen grab also doesn't show anything new. Are you just saying you don't love the idea of those being illuminated or did I perhaps miss an important segment in that video?
Based on the feature name I think it's safe to assume that the area I've pointed to in the screenshot is what will be illuminated. Lateral meaning at the side and the only thing in the tail lights that look like gills are these vertical/diagonal elements, which are all the way to the side. If those were to be illuminated I think it'll look great and certainly worth $170. Curious as to when exactly it would illuminate, I assume it's a running light but who knows. Ugh, why does Porsche make the help text in their configurator so damn useless pretty much every time? Here we are all guessing over this minor detail when they could have provided some basic descriptive copy and maybe a useful photo to answer it themselves.
Maybe it is me, but while I think of what it could look like and that could be cool, when I read gills, this comes to mind.
Wat? Why is that what comes to mind? LOL. Why don't you just think of the 991 clear LEDs which also had some lateral gill-esk illuminated elements to the design.
