I live in a state with a reputation for car theft, sad but it is what it is.

I'm curious if 992 owners have made after market purchase for theft prevention and if so what?

This is similar to the thread regarding road trips but also a little different. Thanks.

No response is good too as maybe I'm overthinking it!

A 2-channel dashcam (one that pushes video to the cloud) that functions while parked and has blinking lights showing it's working would deter some thieves. A pro might not care, but if they know it's a model of dashcam that is capable of pushing video into the cloud - thus providing an owner and police with evidence even if they steal the car - they might move on to the next target.

If they try to steal it, most likely I won't want it back, and I'm better off if they actually got to steal it. So, see above.

My dealer was automatically putting StarGard on all new cars. I found it interfered with Comfort Entry Access and in the underground garage in my condo the Stargard overrode the comfort entry and the car would not automatically unlock when I approached. Apparently the Stargard keeps ramping up its power to get a GPS signal and in the garage it overpowered the Comfort Entry signal. I had Stargard taken off and Comfort Entry works all the time. As others have said if someone steals my car I probably wouldn't want to get it back. My wife had her car stolen many years ago, they found it but it had been wrecked and we had to fix it up and in the end had a car we didn't really want.

Wouldn't a car thief wear a mask and disable the dashcam shortly so it wouldn't help?
Dashcam is still good for vandalism though.

Auto theft, and auto vandalism, in most jurisdictions in the country where its likely to occur - isn't going to be investigated by the police or prosecuted. Just look at San Francisco or NY, many other locales. So a video of them isn't going to help.

Cloud-capable 2-channel cam recording while parked would show any activity around the car - vehicle or people - prior to the theft, and push it to the cloud. Disabling the cameras once access to the car is obtained wouldn't matter as video evidence has been uploaded to the cloud in real-time. Pre-COVID, anyone wearing a mask would draw unwanted attention; not so these days lol, but pretty soon we'll be back to a world where a person wearing a mask on the street will be highly unusual.

That might be true with amateurs jacking Kias, but if someone is stealing a 911 it's most likely going to be a "Pro" and the car will in a container and on a boat in short order. I suggest a 911 isn't likely to be ripped off on a whim, as there's little market for parts from a chopped car compared to a more utilitarian vehicle. Chances are a 911 or other high-end car will be "cased" before the steal, and if it's got a manual the pros won't send someone who can't drive a stick.

I think the notion that a manual transmission is a theft deterrent is fuelled by mostly apocryphal internet stories of opportunistic or joy-riding robbers "foiled" by manual gearboxes. While it might be a factor in a random car-jacking, I think it unlikely that it would foil the vast majority of actual car thieves, either individuals or organized rings.

Let’s face it - a $125k+++ car is going to attract thieves. Not sure there is much we can do but use common sense as to where we drive and park our toys. Park in lighted areas when you can. If you can afford it buy a beater car for trips to crappy areas. Yeah I know, it “shouldn’t” be that way but it is. Get over it.

I used to unscrew the shifter **** on my 86' Carrera Cab if I was in a bad area..for a time I had it in San Francisco and Oakland back in mid-90s so that worked well as it never got stolen. Not sure if current manual shift ***** are easy to unscrew..I'm wondering if having a hidden ignition cut-off switch would be an option or if that would mess with the electronics/software every time.
