No he did not have an allocation early on, but was “sure” he would soon get one. As a newbie to the “Porsche experience”, I had zero appreciation of what this even meant.

I suspect I got bumped because I had a good discount....to someone willing to pay full price, or take a smaller discount? But no proof of that. But I suspect, in a tight market, that the discount plays a factor in when you get an allocation.
Ah. That makes sense. Sounds like they played you. That sucks. At least now you know the next time you are in this position, to ask for proof of life.

My 7.5% saved off on a $178K car is worth the added wait. 😎 . Not to mention that had the car been delivered in the late Fall, when first promised, it would have mostly sat in my garage through the Winter months.

Try not to imagine all the time lost with a late fall delivery of wiping down your 911 with a diaper.

I'd say 3-4 months is typical this year. I was offered a Turbo allocation in January with delivery in 3 months. The Turbo S allocation came last week with a 3 month window to delivery.

Per your post #60, clearly your case is the exception not the norm. I was addressing the OP as it seems he may be new to the table on this. Allocations are now trickling into dealers with VIPs and repeat customers cutting in line. Maybe he gets lucky. Discount? Highly unlikely.

Yeah, but delivery windows have nothing to do with the customer or the dealer. It's totally PCNA/PAG. That should be more generalizable (unless the dealer is playing games). The time between acquiring the hard allocation to the delivery is set by the factory.

In 2021? Maybe? Lot depends on manufacturing slow downs and/ or parts delays due to COVID. Profit margin for Turbo S is significantly higher than either base 911 or 911S

Looking back on my records - 2020 was a similar time frame. Allocation in January and delivery in April for a C2S. 2017 Turbo was the same exact window.

My GT4 was different, however. Allocation in October and delivery in late March.

“Looking back on my records”, for 2020, that’s not what I see.

But to get back to what the OP posted - I wish him good luck getting a discount, AND, getting a 3 month delivery on a custom 992. Good luck.

@rk-d is right. My first 992 locked 8/19, built 9/19, delivered 11/19. My second 992 was locked 6/20, built 7/20, delivered 9/20. Seems to be a 3 month window.

The OP is taking about two improbable events to happen, simultaneously - (1) getting a discount, and (2) getting delivery in July, or a mere 3-4 months after custom ordering in April. I say, 6-sigma...and I will stand by that. Impossible? No. Improbable? Yes.
Does your car have any CXX options? That is Special Wishes from Exclusive Manufaktur? Not to be confused with configurator options that say 'Exclusive Manufaktur item'. I mean options that were not on the configurator list, like a custom interior matching Porsche Umbrella? or stuff like that.

I I got 5% off for a July delivery base coupe that I secured a week-week and a half ago. They're still making plenty of money off my 120k build...PLENTY. I love these cars and have had 5 for the past 17-18 years. I wouldn't overpay for one, because I always lose money on them... It's a car I drive hard 50 miles per day , not an art collection...People get so worked up when you say you got a discount because they are emotionally wrapped into believing these cars are investments. I had one guy in a FB forum recently want to see my discount to prove it. Like, who comes in these forums and wastes time to lie about getting 5% off a car. It's honestly not even that great of a deal... I built an s in 2005 and negotiated greater discounts back then, and bought a 2017 base coupe off a lot for 8% off in oct 2016...I live in a town where people are currently massively overpaying for houses. We'll see in 5 yrs. I guarantee my 2021 base coupe is 65-70 on any dealer trade or a little less. Keep calling around and shop it. Someone will bite. Just offer them a deposit-I gave $5k refundable until my car is locked end of April.

Completely agree with you there. I called a dealer and never had business with them. They offered 3-4% right away over the phone for a Carrera S.

Maybe his and your experiences, but hardly everyone’s. So, a couple of antidotal stories, either way, prove nothing. This thread is soooooooo typical RL....so I’m out.

The bottom line as far as I am concerned - People should ask for whatever discount they think they can get, and then hope they get their custom car in the allotted 3 months you specified. My experience has been, I got a 7.5% discount on a $178K car. By the time my car is deliver (in my hands, not on the dock), I most likely will have waited 10 months.Given the significant savings I received, I’m not too concerned by my wait.

Porsche had several slowdowns/interruptions of the 911 production in 2020. Not to mention all the complaints from people who’s cars were stuck for months at the US port of entry. Waiting. Allegedly due to EPA delays in certifying the vehicles. The hard numbers are - production numbers for 2020 were down 7% in the US and off 15% in Europe. That’s fact. I will assume that the strong demand for the car, coupled with reduced production has resulted in prices going up, and/ or dealerships not willing to give much of any discount, if at all. It’s all good as far as I am concerned.

Yes - during the shutdown there were delays. I don’t think anyone is questioning that. I think rk-d is just stating that the turnaround time is back in the same 3-4 month window once your car locks.
