I had a rear wiper on a dealer-ordered 996 TT. It worked great in winter, was unnecessary in summer (not much rain here), and was always an eyesore outside the car. But along with the fried egg headlights, it was inconsequential when driving the car.
Nick Murray said that pretty much all Europeans spec their Porsche with a rear windshield wiper as they also do in Kiwi Land. He doesn't understand why
so few are that way in North America. It might look spiffier without it, but when it rains hard or especially when it snows, it becomes a necessity.
I have it on my car. I have always preferred a vehicle with the rear wiper and have had on all but one of my past seven vehicles. Personal preference and I disagree that it devalues the car.
i don't think ive ever seen one with a wiper.
i don't think ive ever wanted/needed one.
i live in Co. daily my 718 and is on winter rubber; ive never once felt it necessary.
I do not have a rear wiper on my 992 C4S, however my older porsches that I had long ago had them. I think my 72 had one and maybe my 78 had one.
I like it - kind of old school looking.
So I could go either way, I do not think it looks bad at all.
There are times with my 992 (daily) that would be good to have it. But I think I am in need of a camera washer/sprayer more than the rear windshield wiper. I drove in snow the other day, and the back camera gets dirty.
Where I live, it rains literally less than 20 days a year.
It ruins the look of the rear, it looks funny when you look at it.
Most things look funny if you're not used to it. American's think front plates ruin the look of a 911, when I was in Australia it just looked weird without one.
I had a 993 with a rear wiper and after a while, I stopped seeing it. However, it is hard to make the case that a windshield wiper is a beautiful piece of kit that enhances aesthetics. If I lived in the Pacific Northwest or London, I'd spring for it, but where I live, it is just unnecessary clutter.
We live in Oregon, rains/drizzles average of 154 days a year. We did not spec the rear wiper. Not our daily driver, will be our summer touring vehicle. Of coarse most native Oregonians do not use an umbrella either! lol
I see the 992 has a washer jet (their words). This is good, the 997 didn't so you couldn't use the rear wiper just to clean a dirty window.
Where do you see that the 992 rear wiper has a washer jet? My 4GTS Coupe build locks in a week and I'm thinking about the rear wiper but having the washer is a big plus; I didn't see this anywhere in the literature. Thanks.
