If you have concerns of it falling, Blendmount without question. It won't come off like suction cups will since it's attached to the mirror. There is a coupon at the link below for 12% off, since it is slightly expensive.

Only downside is that it does take away a small amount of visibility, but having the detector fall off while driving would probably scare me a bit, especially if mid corner on a backroad.

how about the mirror falling off

joking ofc...but the BlendMount does catch road vibration that tends to shake things up a bit...i do agree it eliminates the suction cup failure that can happen...having had both over many miles/years....i reverted back to the norm of suction cups

LOL - a V1 hater?

Overprized? Maybe - it takes <1 ticket to make up the difference.
Big & Ugly? Not so much.

Size comparison:
R3: 4.9 (L) x 3.1 (W) x 1.4 (H) inches
V1: 4.6 (L) x 3.8 (W) x 1.0" (H)

So the R3 is both longer and taller, just slightly narrower than the V1....

decided against the mirror tap - but here is a link to another forum member that did it: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1185...radar-etc.html

This seems more a Corvette issue, than a Blendmount issue. I have Blendmounts in 6 cars, and never had an issue of the mirror falling off due to excessive shaking.

yes...you're right - i just noted my experience - it took GM 6mos to finally get it sorted...they were not comfortable taking it apart, and did not want to replace it - as it turns out, its not like any particular service tech that knows everything about everything.....i had to wait for the service manager to get tired of seeing me repeatedly before he called in to GM direct to find out how to fix it -- i got so aggravated by it, i simply removed the BlendMount and went back to suction cups....in the end for me, both ways work...but i'm suction cups for now

I’ve actually had a mirror fall off after removing it, on my Audi. Lol. That’s not good either. Have to make sure It’s really secured in there.

Regarding the vibration, yes, you’re correct, there can be a small amount of vibration depending on road conditions and also on the resonance of the engine RPM’s. However, It’s all balance. If you really don’t like the chance of it falling off, then the Blendmount is the way to go. Otherwise suction cups. My V1 Gen 2 was secured with suction cups all summer last year and it was fine although I did remove it when I wasn’t driving it due to the concern of it falling off and damaging something. I’m thinking to get a Blendmount for it (I’ve had them in previous cars) and try it and see if I can deal with the small decrease in visibility.

One of the selling points of the V1 to me is the classic look. Especially in my 997 interior. I wanted something that looked correct for the time of when the car came out. So many of the modern detectors look out of place to me in a 997, but the V1 Gen 2 fits right in.

Keep in mind that the rear engine of the 911 will less likely transmit vibrations to the windshield

But I’m sure I’m overthinking this issue

You must be right, as I’ve already seen the difference - the v1 hardly moves at all while using suction cups, as in not even a bounce at all - more time will tell, but while in the vette, it had plenty of moving and squeaking

You won’t be disappointed. The R3 and R7 in my opinion are the best for long range detection. Used to be an Escort disciple but the R3 changed that and R7 more so.

Does anyone know the length of the windshield section from the top of the Escort EZ mag mount to the bottom of the RD (image below)? I ask because I have thermal glass in my Cayenne, and the 'cutout' above and to the left of the rearview mirror is only about 4x5in. I currently have my V1 gen 1 sitting up there with the standard suction cups, but seems like it would be a tight fit for the Escort.
I'm also cross shopping V1 gen2, Redline 360c and Theia. The V1 after my upgrade allowance of $110 ends up almost half the price of the 360, and probably even more so than the Theia.

I'll answer my own question here - Escort came back and said the length of the windshield in that image is about 6in.

I have these in all my cars, mount them high on the windshield as high as possible next to mirror. Run wires up the pillar from the fuse box. I have had blendmounts in the past and they are big, bulky, and your detector is very visible from outside the car. This is the easiest car i've ever installed a radar detector in. I also use valentine one SAVVY which also work with uniden detectors on some cars where the fuse box isn't easily accessed or it's hard to find a switched fuse. After using this combo it seems silly to mess around with or spend money on blendmounts when the side effect is your detector is very visible. I've had a window smashed in a grocery store parking lot and a stolen detector once and i'm not going back.

This is the way.

I do the exact same thing in all my cars with that mount.

Returned the V1 G2 for the Escort Redline 360c. Overall better detector in my opinion and should be for $750. 360c is quieter around town (less false alerts on k band) and doesn't need to be so reliant on a third party app to function as intended (ex. V1 driver) due to its lack of GPS lockout and can't warn you of red light camera locations and other reported police traps. Escort also has a better magnetic mounting solution (although I went blend mount). Downside is cost and a little bit bulkier than V1 G2.
