I have these in all my cars, mount them high on the windshield as high as possible next to mirror. Run wires up the pillar from the fuse box. I have had blendmounts in the past and they are big, bulky, and your detector is very visible from outside the car. This is the easiest car i've ever installed a radar detector in. I also use valentine one SAVVY which also work with uniden detectors on some cars where the fuse box isn't easily accessed or it's hard to find a switched fuse. After using this combo it seems silly to mess around with or spend money on blendmounts when the side effect is your detector is very visible. I've had a window smashed in a grocery store parking lot and a stolen detector once and i'm not going back.
Just curious, how is the mount that you linked us to any better than the suction cups that the Uniden already comes with?

Exactly what I don't want. I don't want to create another software troubleshooting project for my already busy self. There are no radar detectors that you just plug in, turn on, and drive?

The modern era is so annoying with all of these excessive, unwanted features that half of us never asked for.....
You don't need to initially hook up to a computer. What folks are referencing is when you want to update the radar detector. Valentine has long offered the ability to update but before you had to send it in. This means that instead of buying a unit every 5 years, one can last for 10-15 years with periodic updates. I love my V1 and owned a number of other units before.

Big & Ugly? Not so much.

Size comparison:
R3: 4.9 (L) x 3.1 (W) x 1.4 (H) inches
V1: 4.6 (L) x 3.8 (W) x 1.0" (H)

So the R3 is both longer and taller, just slightly narrower than the V1....
Yep but from experience. They were WAY behind all technology, resting on their laurels for a long time. Uniden and Escort passed them up and they had to wake up and actually produce an up to date version. They are overpriced. They do not keep up with updates but they do a fabulous job of marketing and spending the big money in all the rags.

To each his own I guess. Most V1 folks haven’t even tried others because they think it is the best. I have owned and used V1, multiple Escorts, Net Radar, ALP and now a couple of Unidens. V1 doesn’t even come close to the others on performance, looks, pricing.

Ive tried them all. And I drive a long straight highway in the middle of the desert to Lake Havasu every other weekend. The R1 or R3 by uniden has the longest range out of any of the other top name brands. By a long shot. I literally get 2 miles warning from sheriffs using KA band. 2 miles! The others didn't even come close.

By chance, does anyone know if a Uniden R7 would fit a blendmouth designed for an Escort Max 360?

This is simply not true, do some research on rdforum and you can see unbiased testing of various detectors. Cliff notes... V1Gen2, and Escort Redline 360C are the best windshield mounted detectors at this time both have outstanding range and false rejection. The Uniden R7 equals those 2 in raw performance, but you will deal with a lot more falsing. All of these will likely be significantly eclipsed by Radenso Theia when it comes out. For the money V1Gen2 will remain a strong contender because it is a good amount cheaper than the RL360C and Theia will be even more expensive.

This is my experience in researching as well. I don't think there is one "best" radar detector in the same way that there isn't one "best" 992 configuration. That said, some tweaks (on a configuration) or differences (on a radar detector) will net some additional benefits to the individual based on his/her specific use case.

You probably can't go wrong with an R7, a V1 gen2, or the new Redline 360C. I'm very interested in the Theia, but seems like it will be lucky if it's out this year and I'm guessing it will be closer to $1,000 than $500.

All that said, I've had and used and loved my original V1 and it's saved me many times. I'll probably get a gen2 in the next few weeks unless some news breaks from Radenso.

R3 is still one of the best out there for everyday use. Excellent long range warning and with all the updates minimal falses. Love it.

I've also tried them all and am a big believer in V1's muting algorithms/ intelligence - I don't get why ^ you want two miles of beeping, V1 wouldn't do that. V1gen2 with the V1 driver app will filter that out until you really need to be alerted. Best radar detector in my book especially given the upgrade policy. Love the V1G2 once paired with a smartphone.

Interesting. I don't know anyone who wants less warning and reaction time when it comes to radar detectors. The second I hear mine Ka band chirp (which isn't often at all) I slow down and see a LEO. And when your going 90mph plus on a lone two lane highway in the middle of the desert from LA to Arizona, 2 miles warning time comes up fast. And I don't get false positives in mine. At least not on the Ka band which is all I care about personally.

Your unit would probably give me close to 2miles warning too according to this online review of the two.

^ My Ka goes off a lot, and I almost never see cops after that.

What gives?

Beats me. If you haven't, I would do a firmware update though. And I would disable K and laser too. Laser goes off to lexus. And around here, K is for automatic doors at the grocery stores. Maybe you have red light cameras around you. If you have the GPS unit, you mute and it will train the unit to not alarm you at that point. I think I have 3-4 electric speed signs near me that for some odd reason use the Ka band when all the others use K band only. Ive muted them out and now those dont trigger any alerts.

Just got the V1 gen2 installed with a blendmount. In combination with the V1 Driver app, customization settings are easy and the GPS lockouts are great once the app learns where the automatic door openers/etc are. Pretty quiet after using it for a few months. Still paranoid with laser guns in North TX but don't want to take the full plunge with a jammer just yet... anyone using a jammer like ALP? If so, what was the ballpark all-in cost for installation, etc.? And how confident are you in its ability to save you if you get targeted (is it 100%)?
