I’ve got the upgraded T interior with grey. Unfortunately Bose was off the option list when my spec locked. Lots of us on here have the same problem as the standard audio isn’t very good. You’ll see lots of posts about upgrading.
A couple of interior shots for you.

Default My T experience (600 miles)

Hello all,

First time member/poster.

I apologize in advance for the long post but I learnt a lot from this forum/thread and feel its only appropriate that I give back. I picked up my 992T-MT over a month ago, have now done over 600 miles, and think I’m now able to give a limited but robust overview of the experience so far. My review will feature comparisons with two other cars I have experience with - an ND2 Miata, and a 2018 M2 LCI. In terms of Porsche experience, I have driven the 992 twice - once on a test drive (CS-PDK - from which I emerged declaring it to be the best car I have ever driven), and once at the Performance Center in Atlanta (CS-MT which only reinforced my declaration above). I’ve also had good seat time in the Cayman GTS 4.0 and the four cylinder version, and I also drove the 718 Spyder at the PPC.
Both times I drove the Cayman was with a view towards replacing my M2 but each time I emerged from the experience preferring my M2 for a couple of reasons; 1) Sound (I prefer the OG M2 engine and exhaust sound to even the 718 4.0. While, driving, the engine sounds better matched to the power delivery and speed which I found confusing in the 718. The 4 cylinder 718 had an unbearable drone at highway speeds. 2) Playfulness. The Cayman is fantastically precise while the M2 is like a hooligan pretty much all the time. It’s not just in that it looses its rear fairly easily, but it’s edgy all the time and even a 10 mile drive can be kind of eventful. It’s fun at more speeds. 3) Looks. The cayman just lacks road presence to me. The Boxster is more impressive on the road but I’m not a big fan of its particular look save in the Spyder.
However, I feel the 718 GT4 is one of the best looking cars in the world and I very almost bought one brand new in 2021 (for 2.5k over list and it’s hard to believe such a time existed). Gorgeous car in Miami Blue but what ultimately prevented me was A) I feared the car was too low for me to enjoy on the road B) I don’t really track and so what’s the point of a 718 with even higher limits? and C) I just couldn’t get the 911 out of my head.

And what I loved so much from that first 911 drive was that it was the first car I drove that felt absolutely right the very first time. The seating, the view, the steering, the way it made power, the way it turned. Everything just felt honed to perfection. I remember taking it on a backroad with tight turns on that first test drive and it performed better than my M2 that I had taken on that road multiple times. So instead of the GT4 I put my name down for a GTS allocation and told my sales man that if Porsche ever made a T version of the 992, that would be the most appropriate car for me. In fact my reason for going to the PPC was to validate that decision by driving a C2S-6MT against a 718 Spyder which were the top contenders for me, and I confirmed that I preferred the 911. I even like the problem of having to manage the rear as it gives the car more character imo compared to the more clinical manners of the 718. At the PPC, I did finally appreciate the long gearing, the great sound at 8k rpm and the clinical precision of the Spyder, but even that just confirmed things for me as like I said, I wanted a car for back roads and not the track.

So, about the 992. First impressions when I saw the car:
  1. It’s gorgeous in Shark blue. The grey accents match this color perfectly. I did consider PG cos its the launch color but am happy I went with SB.
  2. It’s big for a 911. Beautifully designed but looks clearly larger than previous gens. I love the way the large wheels fill the arches and I’m glad I left all the T logos in place. They fit the car. I considered clear tail lights but don’t miss them.
  3. The interior is the best of any car I’ve owned. Even without extra frills. The build quality is superb, and I love the way Porsche did the dash and infotainment. I even like the obscured dials as it gives the interior a quirk that makes it a little more ‘human’. I wanted the .1 mainly cos of the physical tach and I am glad I made that choice. At night the tach looks awesome. I considered a colored stop clock and tach, but I’m glad I didn’t opt for them. The T interior is designed to be dark and it works. I thought I won’t like the piano black trim but it surprisingly works. In fact, one consolation I give my self for not getting the Burmeister is that the silver speakers would have been a bit out of place in the car.
  4. The seats are great (18 way) but it took me a while to find a comfortable position. This happens to me for every car I’ve owned so its not Porsche specific but this did surprise me cos I loved the seats anytime I sat in them prior. The main issue I had was my broad shoulders made the upper section feel tight. But I’ve found positions that work for me now and I love them. If I had to do it again, I’d choose the same seats. They are great at keeping the driver in place so I don’t think the buckets are needed and for me, I have three typical driving positions - one for daily runs, one for spirited driving, and one for no shoes driving. So I need the memory function which works well. I love the fabric centers. They contribute to holding you in place.
  5. The central cup holder is absolutely useless in the MT car.
First drive: (Please note that I chose to keep everything in normal/base mode for at least the first 500 miles as I like to know my cars well from the ground up so I have not yet tried the exhaust or sports settings).
  1. The steering wheel is fantastic. The M2 wheel is a bit too thick (though I like it) while the MX5 wheel is too thin and I dislike it. The 992 is in between these two and it’s perfect. I also love the way its weighted. It’s just great.
  2. The manual stick is awesome. The ball on top is weighted and it gives the car so much gravitas when using it. The gears are precise and I love going through the entire range of motion for each gear rather than slotting with speed as its just so satisfying to use. I suspect the 6MT in the GT and 718 cars may be better but I’ve never used those so I don’t know. The 7MT is perfectly centered on 3 and 4 so I’ve never had an issue with missed gears though I understand some have. Its really hard to enter 7th (you really have to want to) and I don’t think I’ll be using it much anyway. It really doesn’t accelerate and the first time I went into 7th, I felt the car became a bit unsettled and this happened for like the first two or three times on the same drive. However, later on, I didn’t feel this anymore so maybe it was a sort of ‘breaking in’ thing. I also really like the gear ratios in the T. In fact this, and the ability to rev out on the street may be the two reasons I might prefer the T to a GTS. Even though I have not revved past 4k, the gearing just feels right. The engine sounds match the car's speed and gear, the shift points are great and smooth, and there’s torque everywhere. I’m yet to experience lag in the car. It may be my driving style, but I am yet to experience it. The MX5 has a better stick shift, but I’ll take the T’s over it.
  3. The engine. First, it doesn’t feel that powerful (and I guess its not). Granted I’m in break in period but really, the speed is not jaw dropping. I can definitely appreciate the S/GTS and I think their power is very usable on the street. Second, the sound is not great but I like it. It sounds like what I imagine a baby F1 car would sound. It’s all very mechanical, the induction sounds are sweet, and the engine sounds matches whatever the car is doing. But its not particularly loud and the tone is just okay not great. Maybe I’m not used to the flat six sound, but engine sound is not a reason for which I would buy this car. That said, the engine definitely got louder after I crossed 500 miles. I thought it was my imagination but after a few more drives I am fully convinced it did. I’m sure it’ll sound better when I start using the exhaust switch but so far its not all that. But I like it.
  4. Tires. I got Pirellis and I’m actually liking them. I have PS4s on my M2 so I know I love those, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the P Zeros. For one, they don’t make much noise - even at speed, and the grip is not bad at all.
  5. The clutch, brakes and throttle (feel and mapping across all three) are simply perfect. The confidence they inspire is other worldly. The T is not going to get you in trouble because its powerful, instead it can get you in trouble because the car makes you feel like you can accelerate through every single curve and turn - and its largely due to the excellent feel all the inputs give you from the steering to the brakes. At first I thought the clutch was oddly placed. It was later I realized that Porsche designed the foot rest to be where the left foot naturally falls and spends most of the time - with the clutch more centered. Its different from every other manual car I’ve driven. In those cars, the clutch is at or much closer to the natural position of the left foot. I now love Porsches’ execution of this.
  6. The suspension is other worldly. I don’t understand how a car this precise is so good at dealing with road imperfections. I brace myself multiple times on every drive in the M2 but in the Porsche, I think nothing of road bumps. It just soaks them up beautifully. It’s another reason I am able to take corners at much higher speeds than in any other car - cos I’m not afraid of what lies unseen ahead on the road. It's a beautiful thing.
I would sum up my first drive in this simple way - I felt I could go on driving. To the next city, to the next state, to the next country even. As with my very first test drive, the car just felt ‘right’. Comfortable, precise, capable.

My subsequent drives have only cemented most points made above but I will expatiate on a few more:
  1. Driving the T on a curvy back road is where I knew and understood why the 911 would slay almost any similarly classed car on track. This car is the first I’ve driven where I feel like I should actually step on the accelerator as I’m approaching a curve or bend - instead of slowing down. I’m not saying that’s the right thing to do- I’m saying it feels like that’s the right thing to do. The T makes you feel like it was engineered to drive faster through curves. My first drive on one of my best back road routes was so much faster in the T than the M2 that I was completely surprised. It stays planted, its response to inputs is impeccable, its just awesome. I took my kid out in the car and he was using superlatives I didn’t even know he understood. He had to ask me if I braked at all through out the drive. That’s how it felt to him. The car’s mechanical grip is amazing. I really really look forward to being able to rev out the T on a back road - and I think this is when I will be able to absolutely confirm my preference for it over the GTS.
  2. Long distance driving. I did a 3 hour round trip and its a great highway car. Planted, no drone, tire noise is not unbearable at all. Two thumbs up from me.
  3. Ground clearance is great. I’m glad I didn’t pay for front axle lift. Have not one had an issue and I’ve taken the car to all sorts of places.
  4. I didn’t want and I don’t miss rear axle steer. Like I said, I want to feel and have to manage the rear end. I love the way the car drives - its exactly what I want so I won’t choose RAS if I had to do it again.
Negatives
  1. The stereo is garbage. There’s no other way to put it. I don’t even understand how Porsche can put this in a six figure car. It’s a real bummer they denied us the Bose cos the car is not so noisy that you can’t enjoy a good stereo. But I still don't know that I would pay 5k for sound in a car.
  2. The other thing that’s garbage is the back up camera. It’s just awful. It’s grainy, the picture is low so the visual field is poor, and the grid lines are quite confusing. It's almost like it was an after thought.
  3. Apple car play looks great and works well, but I have noticed that the connection drops off sometimes. Does not bother me much though.
Now that I know how the car drives in the base modes, I look forward to trying other modes (suspension, exhaust, auto blip) over the next few weeks.
Cheers.

Cheers.
Wow, @Spydert that was impressive first post. Are you a journo, by any chance? I like your well considered views, against two other iconic cars.

The only question is where is the obligatory picture? What is your fav angle?

A couple of interior shots for you.

Hey @Newto911’s , are the rear seats usable by humanoids? Or is it just additional storage?

Mine will be frequented by miniature Schnauzers, so I might fold down the seat for them to see out the window.

@Spydert

Yes it was a long review but I agree with a lot of it and will be particularly useful to anyone that’s not yet locked in options.
However, I think you’ve only really got to know one side of this car’s split personality.
I find the car that ambles along gently on my daily drive below 4000 rpm is a different beast from the one that snarls at you over 6000 in Sport or Sport+. It’s personality changes quite a bit!
If you track it occasionally or live somewhere where there are winding country roads etc you really get to appreciate the other personality.
Sadly in my case that’s only something I get to do very occasionally.
Still, however close you personally get to exploiting the potential of this car, in the back of your mind you’ll always know that even the experts that test all the 911’s rate this one very highly!

I would love to be able to tell you, but at this point I can’t convince anybody to try on a drive 🤣.
I optioned them in to give a flat load area and also can then get a couple of small bags between the seat bases and backs when down. Hoping to do a 3 week road trip down to Italy in September and have been considering luggage. Does anybody out there have any experience with the company in the following link? Was considering the full 8 bag set.

That is a very cool set! Maximising the usable space of 992. Thanks for sharing.

Do you know if the bags with wheels are also the right size for airplane overhead storage?

I messaged Peter from the website and he came back straight away with the below information on sizes. Looks a really good option, just wondered if anyone had purchased.

Three bags to front boot (without ”corner" inside):
2 bags 65 x 41 x 19 centimeters
1 bag 69 x 22 x 13-7 cm (it slopes)

Four bags to the rear seat:
2 bags 44 x 34 x 20 cm
2 bags 33 x 31 x 15 cm

One bag to the hat rack:
76,5 x 32 x 11-10 cm (sloping)
