NEWSFLASH! I've been checking the hack all day because I just had a feeling, and sure enough... BAM!

Check out the screen shot below. This image was posted within the last 2 hours. I wonder how soon after it's taken does it wind up here. My car supposedly went into production on 3/28 and will be done 4/3, but I have not heard anything since stage 4 on Monday.

On my 991.2T, I had PPF'ed the front bumper, fenders, and A pillars. I know it saved me at least once from a rock chip. The PPF was torn but no damage to paint. I think the cost/benefit analysis you're talking about only makes sense if you include time (years) and how many times it will save you. You can't really calculate that. I would do anything to avoid repainting a panel. I would rather deal with the paint chips than repaint. For me repainting is an extreme case type of thing to do.

Having said all that, I'm not trying to convince anyone to do PPF. It's not necessary if you don't care about the paint as much as others do. The choice is your own in the end. It's kind of interesting how folks in this forum will form an opinion and then stick to it and defend it like it's the only thing that matters. Do what you want as long as it makes you happy. I personally always research everything to death before I make my decision.
Appreciate the feedback - I do care about the paint & I'm def not stuck on a position - I'm on the fence here (waffling). Wasn't really suggesting I'd repaint a panel - I agree that is much worse than rock chips - was just thinking about how absurdly expensive the PPF installation is. The only thing I ever had repainted was the front bumper & rear spoiler of my '99 Miata (after roughly 20 years and nearly 140k) - an extremely well taken care of car which looks fantastic for its age but is not exactly getting ready for the concours!

The real question for me is am I going to be more annoyed by the cost (including potential repairs) of the PPF, or do I just want to deal with some chips? I've never had PPF before - considered it for my M2 but the cost was too much at that time.

@bobert75 It cost me 2500 to do the entire front clip on my 991.2 T. That's the front bumper, hood, fenders, A pillars. That's really all the protection you need unless you like going in reverse behind dump trucks. I think it's reasonable for the amount of protection you get.

Some may complain that the line of the film is more unsightly than scratches would be, but as seen in the second pic, you really can’t see the PPF line from any distance other than close up.
Appreciate this. I'm def not a "PPF naysayer" - I was actually pissed when they took away the factory PPF option for models below the GTS (starting last June when MY23 appeared on the configurator). Unlike with my 2018 M2, I can afford it this time (and the car costs more than double so, yea, well worth seriously considering it). Your pics reminded me that my M2 actually came with a small PPF panel in front of each rear fender (duh) - after 5.5 years, it's somewhat similar to what your pics show in that you can see some minor "scarring" on the film when you're close up but not so bad when viewed further away. And yea, it IS kinda nice thinking that the paint is in good shape under there and I could always have those little panels redone...

So I'm strongly leaning towards getting PPF on my T (front bumper + hood + front fenders + side mirrors + maybe rocker panels?). I guess my only concern at this point is that I'll be driving the car 16 days in Europe "unprotected" but what else can I do? It certainly seems worth the risk. I guess the plan is to just go over there, drive the **** out of it, hope for the best, and then PPF that thing when she finally appears in the US.

I know a guy that can fix rock chips. I’ll throw some track wrap on the front before a long road trip.

I've posted this before but doesn't hurt to do it again: https://www.xpel.com/products/paint-...-film/tracwrap

Also, consider calling a nearby PPF installer in Stuttgart. If you time it and schedule it right, you could pick the car up and drive straight to the installer. They could turn it around in a day.

Appreciate the tip - I've heard of trac wrap (and comparable products) but I think I'd rather risk a few Alpine road chips than have my car look awful while on the trip.

Just keep distance from other cars and it'll be fine.

Thanks, I considered this (having PPF done at a private shop in Germany) months ago but decided it was too much of a logistical clusterfuk, plus I seriously intend to drive this thing for all 16 free days in Europe (not one day less!). My only regret from my M2 ED trip in Oct 2017 was not using all the free days - my T will not sit one single day from 8/22 through 9/6.
