Default PDK Selector

I know lots of people hate the new PDK Selector / Shaver. I initially hated it but after test driving a few different variants for a few days I personally don’t mind it and sort of stop noticing it after a while.

That said if you had the opportunity to change it. What would you change it to that would still complement the 992’s beautiful interior?

I’ve manage to pick up a spare PDK selector assembly out of Germany reasonably cheap. Was going to play around with some custom CNC parts and or 3D printing for some kicks. Thought I’d gather a few ideas from my fellow enthusiast...who knows if it turns out ok, I might even install it and use it 😆

in factory carbon weave...🤔

While I would prefer buttons, I'm totally fine with what Porsche has provided. It's simple, logical, and tactile. It only gets touched when I am driving off or parking the car -- and doesn't feel terrible. I know that some folks miss the ability to shift the PDK with the lever, but that hasn't been necessary since Porsche stepped away from steering wheel buttons/rockers and gave us proper paddles.

An additional consideration, that isn't often mentioned, with the big shift lever gone, it's one less thing to get impaled upon in the event of an accident. No doubt, that was a design consideration with the little selector.

Still, it will be interesting to see what you come up with. Good luck!

Yeah totally agree with you...you only use it to park but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a fun project. Might inspire some ideas 💡

In Bordeaux Red to match my trim with the Porsche Crest ??

I’d love one if they were offered in Australia

I've come to the conclusion that the OEM device is not really a Gear Shift Lever, it's actually a rather large Rocker or Toggle Switch. Thinking of it as such might open a range of possibilities that might come to mind?

I'm more enamored with the 8ball than the manual, but I guess manual's ok too.

The stubby lever is completely unnecessary. If I had a spare assembly and 3D printing tools I’d try and figure out how to make it smaller and look even less like something used to shift. Using a similar rotating dial as the Sport Chrono control below the steering wheel would be interesting.

Agree....Like most of the modern cars these days the selectors really are just a giant toggle switch...I thought about doing something totally different with it like switches but have no idea how to dress it as it is the centre piece of the console.

I completely miss the ability to shift using the stick. I didnt use it much, but it was very useful if I needed to downshift while making a u turn or something like that. Again, I didn't use it much. But having the ability to use it when my hands where not exactly at 10 and 2, was most helpful. Ive found myself "looking" for it a few times.

Because of this, I find my 992 in full auto mode more than I have EVER seen in any of my 991.2's. My 991.2's NEVER saw auto mode. But my 992 sees it 90% of the time now. And that bugs me. Im a manual guy. And manual 991.2 PDK was fine with me. But this paddles only 992 PDK is not as useful to me.

I’ve gotten used to it and really am okay with it. The one minor annoyance is I find myself searching a bit for the Park button sometimes. I’m used to it being integrated with the lever in my other vehicles.

The answer is a 6 speed manual, and you can have a real big boy shift lever!

I kind of like the 992 PDK center console looking like female genitalia. That said, I prefer a manual.
