Battery Tender - UNSOLVED
Hello all!
At this point, no one has been able to solve the issue with the passenger side connector, and the inability to successfully connect the battery tender to the new 992. No matter what you do, it goes into sleep mode... We’ve tried the connection before turning vehicle off, door locking sequence, etc... Nothing works and Porsche has been silent. Which can only mean there is an issue with this system and they haven’t found a solution yet. And don’t bring up the lithium battery... You’re behind the game if even asking/suggesting that angle.
What bothers me after spending $150k+ on a car is that Porsche won’t respond to this issue??!! Service claims to know nothing, yet NOT ONE OWNER OF A 992 CAN GET THE TRICKLE CHARGER WORKING THROUGH THE INCAR PORT.
Can anyone suggest or recommend a representative to contact to discuss this issue?
Thanks,
RxJedi

I was having issues connecting a battery maintainer through the passenger side socket of my 992 which has the lithium battery. The Porsche charger/maintainer didn't work in any configuration I tried. There was a series of posts about 5 months ago which presented a solution, but there was sequencing. After a few attempts, but now with a CTEK maintainer, I succeeded in a connection. I've been away for 3 months and the maintainer remains on line, as my daughter forwarded a picture of it last week.
I'm sorry I can't recall the sequencing,

If you can remember the sequencing, it would be much appreciated! For me, and Porsche engineers, as they don’t have the answer and can’t answer the question!
I followed the thread from then, but none of the sequences have worked for others, including my vehicle.
Thank you in advance for any information and assistance!

I have the sequencing written down, but I'm not "there", and I'd be only guessing. Back in May, I believe, on this forum is where I obtained the the proper sequencing. It was for the lithium battery together with the CTEK lithium battery charger.

I'm not sure if this will be helpful or has already been shared. https://content2.us.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment/Live/TequipmentInfoLive.nsf/0/F40A7027ADB08C82C1257FA4007C2CCC/$file/User%20Manual%20Charge-o-mat%20Pro_Manual%201%20EU.pdf

1. Turn off the ignition. (OK if charger is plugged into the house outlet and ready to go.)
2. Plug the charger into passenger side 12 volt outlet. (Make sure it is properly seated in the outlet. On several occasions I discovered it had not been. It's very awkward to set it in place. I find I can't do it from the driver's seat. I have to get out of the car, walk around to the passenger side, kneel on the floor - - praying position -- and then plug it in.)
3. Turn on the ignition. (Allow a couple seconds for the car's system to boot up. Click the mode button on the charger and make sure it is set to Li-Ion if the car has a Lithium Battery. The charger should show one of four levels of charge - from very low to full - which will gradually increase as the system registers and charges)
4. Turn off the ignition and lock the car.
5. After a couple hours, double check that it is still connected and charging (three lights glowing on the top of the charger) and go back to step #1 if it is not working.
My experience is that the charger does not reconnect to the car after a power failure, after the wall outlet powers off, or after the charger is unplugged from the garage outlet. Going back to step #1 seems to work.

Why do this over connecting to the battery? Well, you can do both, but I liked being able to just plug in to the socket vice opening the front bonnet, unclipping the plastic covers and finding the right terminal (you shouldn't connect direct to both battery terminals). I think the passenger socket is a bit simpler to use!
Glad it's still helping, can someone add my original post on here as a sticky as this comes up quite a lot......

I installed a fused connection to battery and ground post, with the CTEK connector which has water seal cap....to come out of cover so I just pop the frunk...plug in and close. very easy , no procedure . The frunk cab still close as the cable is smaller than the panel gap. I have the 12V outlet adaptor too should I choose.
In my case, my ( not ideal) garage setup happens to suit the direct battery connection arrangement

Just wondering, I've always used my cars as daily or almost daily drivers. The longest between starts was probably 3 weeks on my last BMW. To those that use battery tenders, what kind of time frames between drives do you feel the need for the battery tender?
