Just wondering, I've always used my cars as daily or almost daily drivers. The longest between starts was probably 3 weeks on my last BMW. To those that use battery tenders, what kind of time frames between drives do you feel the need for the battery tender?
I've wondered the same thing. On motorcycles I've often gone months without riding a particular bike, but with this car I can't imagine going more than a couple/three weeks.
The battery will run down even if the vehicle is out of operation....To maintain its function, charge the battery approximately every 6 weeks or connect it to a trickle charger suitable for lithium batteries with a CC/CV or pure CV characteristic. Porsche recommends the charger and charge maintenance unit from Porsche Tequipment.
This appears in the section on lithium batteries which begins with...The 12-volt lithium battery is automatically disconnected from the vehicle electrical system if the battery charge is low.
Given the ominous "automatic disconnection" and the ambiguous "charge it every 6 weeks ...or connect it to a trickle charger" I just decided to put the car on a trickle charger when I garage it. I am driving it pretty frequently - once every two or three weeks - but I really want to avoid a hassle.
On my more exotic vehicles I run a tender every time the car is not running. Some cars tend to do very odd things when the battery runs down even a little.
A Porsche does not need to be on a tender if you drive it at least once every month.
I used to travel weeks at a time and left my 997 at the airport. Fired up every time, even if it goes 'to sleep'. Only time it ever went dead was in the garage at work, I'd driven it to work that morning... Or the new one here 2 days after being delivered.
1. Turn off the ignition. (OK if charger is plugged into the house outlet and ready to go.)
2. Plug the charger into passenger side 12 volt outlet. (Make sure it is properly seated in the outlet. On several occasions I discovered it had not been. It's very awkward to set it in place. I find I can't do it from the driver's seat. I have to get out of the car, walk around to the passenger side, kneel on the floor - - praying position -- and then plug it in.)
3. Turn on the ignition. (Allow a couple seconds for the car's system to boot up. Click the mode button on the charger and make sure it is set to Li-Ion if the car has a Lithium Battery. The charger should show one of four levels of charge - from very low to full - which will gradually increase as the system registers and charges)
4. Turn off the ignition and lock the car.
5. After a couple hours, double check that it is still connected and charging (three lights glowing on the top of the charger) and go back to step #1 if it is not working.
My experience is that the charger does not reconnect to the car after a power failure, after the wall outlet powers off, or after the charger is unplugged from the garage outlet. Going back to step #1 seems to work.
I tried this procedure for 2021 992 and it did not work
NOT ONE OWNER OF A 992 CAN GET THE TRICKLE CHARGER WORKING THROUGH THE INCAR PORT.
One owner can 😋

The 12 v plug on the charger has two metal clips. Inside the 12 v outlet there are also two metal clips; one at 3 and and the other at 9 o'clock. The clips have to be in contact with each other for the connection to work.
I have a 2021 C2S - took delivery in December 2020. I have tried every trick suggested in this thread and others. Just tried Smiles11 procedure. No go.
I'm crying "uncle" on the 12v socket hook up and ordering the alligator clip adaptor to go directly to the battery.
