I had it on my 991.2 and loved it. Mine didn't show any wear after 3 years, but I made sure I didn't have greasy hands when I drove. It's grippy, and didn't get as hot in the summer. It only came in black back then (not sure if that's still true), so I didn't get it on my 992 2-tone interior.
Newly acquired - but had on my previous 2 cars (991.2, 718 CGTS) - no issues with wear, as Myk said - keep greasy fingers hands away, especially sunscreen
LOVE mine. Only a month old so can't speak to how it's holding up, but I do worry about getting stuff on my hands. Went to Costco the other day and bought some King crab legs. The damn stuff leaked while still in the shopping cart and luckily I was able to triple-bag it so i didn't eternally have crab juice smell in my frunk, but I was super worried about the smell on my hands and having it absorb into the steering wheel. First world problems I suppose. Spent like 2 min vigorously rubbing my hands all over my shirt and pants to ensure the steering wheel stayed clean.
I have had alcantera on my past few cars, and my current Mac 720s has it everywhere. My 992 does not have any.
Personally I am kind of over alcantera, it is light, looks nice, etc. But if you have any kind of sunscreen, oil, lotion, etc. that come in contact - it will show. Not a problem for me as I am aware and take caution, but since it is all over my Mac (seats, dash, etc. etc.) - I make sure passengers do not have any oily base products on, specifically during summer, etc. It is a pain to clean off (not impossible), but you have to be vigilant.
Also for when I do treat the leather parts in the Mac, it takes me two times longer, as I have to extra carful not to get leather cleaner/conditioner on the alcantera parts that butt right up against the leather bits. as that also leaves and oily smudge that I have to clean up.
As far as wear and tear, never had an issue (minus my caution above) - it wears as good if not better then leather from a durability standpoint. No creases or anything on some of my cars that I have had over 3 years and many miles.
Thank you all for responses, really helpful. Not sure yet what I'll do but I'm thinking of this: slate grey interior with race tex steering wheel and center console lid. anybody think this would look bad? my exterior color is aventurine green with aerokit/gloss black pack
Alcantara can be cleaned with just a damp MF towel and a few dry towels, no products needed. If you wash your hands and don't eat cheeseburgers in the car, it will not get greasy and lose its fluff too quickly. It absorbs sweat and bodily fluids more than leather, but it takes me not even half an hour to do the steering wheel. I wear gloves so I have to do a clean once or max twice a year. Without gloves, we'd be looking at every two three months and that's very doable and same as with leather.
I think the steering wheel should be the same color as the upper dash; if I am not mistaken, it's an all-gray interior which is already not my taste. In my opinion, the upper dash and doors should always be black but that's personal preference.

I think this will look just fine. I've ordered the slate grey/chalk interior with the Race-Tex wheel so it will be an even larger contrast than yours but still looks good to me:

Looks awesome! I wanted to do the exact same but I am too cheap to pop for the extra 5k. With the wheel you also get the shifter boot and **** in alcantara👍🏻
I have seen no wear since receiving the car last May. I probably wouldn't have thought to spec it myself, but ended up finding a car on a lot that ticked the majority of my boxes and happened to have the alcantara wheel. In my case, with an all black interior, I think it gives a nice texture pop, though I do find myself thinking twice about what I may have touched or eaten before getting in the car.
