I looked very closely at my sport color-matched side skirts for the first time the other day. Stick with me: At the bottom of the “standard” skirt, you’ll find orange peel. That’s a great idea. The lowest point should have the orange peel finish, for obvious reasons. If you get black plastic side skirts, then the lowest PAINTED surface on the car, is orange-peeled.
However, if you order Sport Side Skirts in paint color, they come — well — Painted. Not orange-peeled. So, looking from the door, down, you have (1) smooth painted finish, then (2) orange peel finish, and then (3) smooth painted finish again. DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE??? Not to me. I think Porsche dropped the ball on this one. Color-matched sport side skirts should have been orange-peeled.
If you’re uber fastidious about such things, then getting color-matched sport side skirts will drive you crazy...just because it’s such an odd look. Here’s a pic.
‘Frankly. It doesn’t bother me at all. And I have seen a Heritage Targa in Cherry with the black plastic side skirts. I didn’t like the look. Hope this info helps you!
I hope you can zoom in on this: Goes from smooth Painted, to orange-peeled, then back to smooth painted.
This is a great observation and I never considered this.
I've been offered 10k over what I paid to trade my new Targa in. Autotrader has several used 992 Targas (low mileage) selling for 20-30k over MSRP. If They guaranteed me a reasonable order slot at MSRP I would probably sell them my car. If you got a discount, you are very lucky because right now that seems impossible.

Yeah I am very fortunate! Got the allocation back in January and the dealer thought they would get more and has not (OHIO dealer) I have an amazing relationship with them..
2% off invoice?! That is amazing, isn't invoice like 6% for Porsche or maybe it was 10%?
It baffles me Targas are selling at MSRP and above. I was able to get a discount as well when I ordered it last month. But far from the 6 - 7% I was expecting pre-covid.
What are the thoughts on Shark Blue? Mine is going to be a 2022, and I am thinking of switching from GT silver to Shark Blue. I would do the RS wheels, and black Targa Bar. I really like the bordeaux interior, but thinking that may be a bad look.

I actually considered this exact combo! Except it was the two-tone Bordeaux / black interior.
Shark Blue is an amazing color. But what ultimately made me steer away was I can’t help but think how common this color will be on the 992 since it is available across the range. And I feel like it is going to be very popular. Nothing wrong with that, but for me I just went with Carmine Red. Surprisingly low pick up rate as a premium color.
However, if you do go for Shark Blue, Bordeaux interior would be great because the Targa is already an out there car. I love colors and this will definitely be a statement combo.

GT Silver is a Porsche Classic, looks awesome with Black/Bordeaux interior. Shark Blue is new and exciting, but that excitment will wear off quickly. I had a 2019 GTS in GT Silver with black interior, would have ordered it again but decided to change it up a bit with Chalk and Black/Bordeaux. I would definitely rethink Shark blue and Bordeaux...not a good look.
Anything you choose will be great, enjoy the process.

I think Shark Blue will look amazing on the Targa. Yes, there will be a bunch of shark blue cars out there, but since there aren’t that many Targas out there I wouldn’t worry about that. In terms of the interior, I think that slate grey/chalk would look great. It’s what I’m planning to do if I get an allocation (I’m first on my dealer’s list but there’s still no guarantee they’ll get an allocation). I think the black/Bordeaux would definitely be striking.
This is what I’m thinking on my build if my dealer comes through:

Great build! I was looking into the exclusive wheels as well. Idk if you’re aware, but I heard the gloss black will chip relatively easier, which results in showing the “white” underneath. And obviously more prominent with seeing brake dust. I was urged to go for satin black. Which gets you the same look without some of the downsides?

I had no idea about the chipping with the gloss black. Thanks for the heads up. Do the silver spokes on the exclusive wheels have the same finish if choosing either gloss or satin black? For some reason I think someone had mentioned that with satin black the spokes weren’t polished as highly as if you choose gloss black; rather that the spokes were also more of a satin silver. I haven’t seen the wheels in person, so I’m kind of lost on this.

Actually you’re correct. With gloss black, the flat spoke surface is in high polish vs. a brushed polish (of that is a thing) with the satin black.
Tbh the brushed look vs. the high polish look does not bother me overall. But if you prefer one way or another, than the gloss and satin choice will be crucial! At the end of the day, it’s a car that must appeal to the owner first and foremost.
I have solid gloss black wheels and not having any chipping. FYI, and they still look great with brake dust on them. Kind of look like satin when they are dirty...lol.
