Default 992 PSE Programming IS Possible

Hello all,

So ill give a summary of my dilemma, journey and solution here. I option a non-PSE exhaust because I wanted to slap an aftermarket exhaust on. Then I realized that the aftermarket exhausts needed PSE to start... This made me wonder if I should just buy and retrofit PSE. But that made me wonder, if I could buy and retrofit PSE, maybe I could just buy the actuators and enable the programming instead of buying the entire exhaust. This is where my dilemma started...

No one knew what the hell was in the non-PSE 992. Because the car was so new, people didn't know how things were wired, especially cause most of the cars came with PSE. So a non-PSE base model 992 seemed to be a unicorn for now. I called every local dealership around me, no one had a clue. I called/msg'd multiple well known tuners/reps and none of them had an answer.

Therefore, I decided to just crack the damn thing open myself and find out. To my surprise the 992 non-PSE base model comes with the electronic actuators from the factory. The EXACT same valve actuators that the PSE uses. A base model non-PSE 992 can install the akrapovic PSE-only exhaust without an issue. You just wouldn't have valve control via the PCM. Now, dimensionally the PSE and non-PSE are the same, but they are actually different mufflers. This lead to my second idea...

Since the 992 comes with everything it needs for the valve control... the Sport Exhaust button could probably just be activated. Low and behold, I was right. My base model 992 non-PSE now has the PSE functionally, albeit still quieter than the actual PSE exhaust.

I hope this information was useful to you guys. This journey took me about 4 weeks of asking questions, going to dealerships, phone calls and finally just tearing the ****in thing open.

Thanks for sharing. "the Sport Exhaust button could probably just be activated." How did you activate it? Via the dealer I assume or did you just go into the menu settings on your own?

Very interesting! On the 991.2 the pse had 2 valves i think non-pse had one. Are there 2 valve actuators on the 992 non pse.
Also i read on the mercedes forum folks that messed with electronic valves got a soft limp mode (were only getting like 370 hp on the amg gtr). Damn electronics. Please let us know if you notice any power loss.

I've not driven my PSE equipped car once without the valves open. Same goes for both of my Huracans. I just can't get my head around anyone who needs their vehicle THAT quiet. I still use CarPlay, talk on my phone (via CarPlay), drive long distances, etc...all with the valves open on every ride.

yes it was dealer activated. at first they said it was not possible. Then after some discussion on both our ends, the tech made it magically happen.

agreed, but some of my older clients definitely prefer it quieter.

almost certain it has two but i’ll check for you soon. didnt feel any major powerloss, maybe just very slight loss of back pressure? but that would be with any exhausts valve open.

Vixcan, do be clear, what you accomplished was getting manual control of your standard exhaust valves through the PCM? Is this what the car does automatically when you switch from normal to sport or sport+?

I would imagine this is also what is done when a dealer installs a PSE system.

Yes manual control.

No it does not open valves in Sport, Sport+.
It does automatically open at 2500rpm in Sport mode, not sure about Sport+.

Yes dealer does this during PSE install.

My dealer has not done this before and is concerned he may not be able to determine how to do this. Which dealer did this for you and is there a specific tech my dealership can contact?

I have same experience with non-PSE Cayenne E3.
Few weeks I was fine with result, but when I have tried Cayenne with PSE I can say difference is not only in software

Could you please send me an instruction of what specifically was done to your car? Also have a non PSE car and looking for an aftermarket Valvetronic exhaust. Much appreciated.
