center locks were on the 991 GTS?
Isn t the GTS the last version before the .2 facelift?
this car is not a mule at all and not a minimal camouflage neither
Marketing : the GTS is the swan song version before the facelift to revamp the 2S sales at less price than a 2S with all sport options selected.
A GTS with a 3.8 turbo spied ready for production this year, make sense now and at GTS price ?
or is this rather a GT2 Touring that can easily be sold for 180k ?

Yes, that’s being done to save atrocious 718 sales. And the GT4 engine is not a real GT engine, just a Carrera engine with a few tweaks. But historically with the 911 (the car we’re talking about here), it’s what Nick Murray has always said: “the GTS is just the Carrera S dressed in drag.” If you look at the post to which I responded, the poster said it had elements of the GT cars. It really doesn’t, unless we’re talking about Alcantara, which isn’t even a GT element many want, and it’s inconsequential nevertheless.
This.

P.S. Grant, I don't pretend to know even half as much as you do about this stuff. And I would love to learn that you're right about the direction of GTS models as it applies to the 992 as maybe it will bring me back to a Carrera (if it is finally going to live up to the GT part of GTS) so I can have back seats again. I'm just saying that historically the GTS has not been midway between a Carrera S and GT3, and not even close. It's been a Carrera S+ (where the + is quite modest) and the trim package including center-locks and Alcantara would actually be considered to be more of a minus than a plus by many. But I am definitely rooting for your speculation about the 992 GTS to be correct, and it won't surprise me one bit if it is.

Finger crossed they go with a 3.8l in a GTS but I cant see any indication of this on the photos of the mule? Am I missing something? Or si this just purely speculation based on the other models in the GTS range (718, Macan, etc)

Of course Nick Murray doesn’t like Alcantara or Powerkit 3.8 but then again, I don’t agree with him at all. The Powerkit 3.8 engine with 430 hp is a gem that loves to rev and definitely felt like more power to me.

Porsche only did the 718 GTS 4.0 because of terrible 718 sales. For the 911 line, they will stick with same turbo GTS formula and the GT3 touring.

I believe the new Turbo is going to have a new version of the 9A2 evo engine, displacing 3.8 liters, and turbocharged. I believe the GTS will have a slightly detuned version of this engine. Porsche isn’t likely going to put the 991.1 3.8 turbo engine in the 992 turbo, and it will be cheaper to detune that engine for the GTS. I believe the 9A2 evo will be the core engine offered in all 992s from a modularity/efficiency/cost standpoint, taking a page from mclaren who use their turbo v8 as their core engine for everything in various states of tune. Even the new 992 GT3 will have a version of this engine, I believe.

a GT2 Touring because
1) is not the time for the GTS
2) rims centerlock
and most important
3) no rear seats

I would be SHOCKED if the GTS used a 3.8l . Would that be awesome though...yeah, but I just see it as being a 475 hp tt 3.0...cant see them dumping in so much more money when they barely need to adjust the boost and a little turbo action to get what they need.

There's two camps here...one is Porsche will keep doing the same as they always have in the past, the S drivetrain with some tweaks to add power; two is they will follow suit on what they have just started doing with the 718 GTS 4.0, the Panamera GTS, and the Macan GTS, put a detuned version of the better engine from the upper models.
Nobody knows which way they'll go with the 992 other than Porsche themselves but neither sides of the speculation are particularly wrong. The fact they've done it 3 times in a row now for all the new GTS's sounds like a pretty clear direction and hence I'm in camp two.

Also, keeping the 3.0L turbo displacement is important for tax purposes in china, which is now their second largest market.
992 GTS will be the same recipe as the 991.2, for both reasons.

exactly. Porsche never spends money they don’t have to. Adjust the boost on current 3.0L engine, add parts bin option package, and you have a GTS, with almost no investment from Porsche, but a great return.

and RoW is gone mad with CO2 emissions (whilst the real CO2 is coming from agricultural and house heating systems )
718 GTS 4L is a very cheap engine in components and metallurgy when compared to any NA 4L Porsche built so far
all together bring to the conclusion that a detuned 3.8 Turbo
costs way less than a even more tuned Speedster engine
it is way way more ecofriendly than a more tuned Speedster engine
wondering why a GTS should be ready for production 2 years before the usual planning
to me that green 992 is not a GTS
