992 Saggy Seat Bottoms
#17
Has anyone else experienced "saggy seats" in the 992. I have 18-way full leather and I'm relatively light weight. The leather is already puckered as shown in the image. I show a 991.2 18-way seat in for comparison. Even with more miles on it, the old seat looks smooth and fresh. The dealership says that this is just what natural leather does but I worry that the leather will more more like a seat cover after a few years. Porsche reduced the weight of the seats and the thickness of the padding. The quality of the leather also seems to be worse.

The 992 seats are heated but not cooled. Both seats are the same in that regard. But you note correctly that the 992 leather is very perforated. I just did 5 hours in the 992 seats and the big difference from the 991 is that the padding is just less dense and there is less of it. I think Porsche had perfected the automobile seat with the old 18 ways and has now mess it up. Bring back the 991.2 seats!

On a related note: I sat in the new Taycan yesterday and the seats feel very similar to the 992 seats. They have a fancy adjustable headrest but otherwise seem the same. So this new design seems to be something that will propagate across the brand. Too bad.

The seats are ventilated as part of the premium package and also as stand alone option. I am sure that the original post was referencing the the padding needs be different to support this feature and may be contributing to the stretched seat skin.

The seats are the leather adaptive 18-way sport seats with seat heating. They just come perforated like this. If you look at the configurator, this perforation is there in every configuration. I see no way to not get it.

Three Wheelin'
I am an engineer (automotive background) from Germany, who owned 4 new Porsche 911 since 1998. All these cars with mileages up to 50.000 never had a problem with saggy seat bottoms. But my new 992 S with 3.500 km has the same problems as shown in the picture of the thread starter. Porsche says: Normal, no technical defect, no repair under guarantee. Leather is a natural material. IMO the leather is not the reason for the fault. The cause of the defect lies in the use of unsuitable material for the seat pads. Resilience of the foam doesnt meet the requirements. This leads to loss of preload of the leather.: Disappearance of the leather bulges during applying a force with the palm to the seat pad from below. A design fault exists. I will seek judicial clarification of the matter in Germany.

It has to be the padding. There is foam shop down here, in the Daytona area, and they make replacement cushions for furniture, autos, etc. and if one sent them the padding they would make a new one in the density one desired, which I assume any foam shop could do or upholsterer.

Bob is prob right (he usually always is ;-)) I will add I had the exact same issue in my Golf R. VW finally caved in and my dealer replaced the seat padding and fixed the issue. My friend has a 987 and the leather and padding is stunningly well done. I think the new leather and padding is simply made cheaper, just my guess. I did not accept this in my $40k Golf R, if this was in my 911 I'd be pushing even more for a fix.
