I think my original reply got ate by the thread merge...Anyway: I agree with the sentiment of 991's being outdated. Heck, I own one.

Especially the tech and interior. When I get out of my wife's 9y0 and into my car, it's like I've gone back in time. The Cayenne dash is so nicely laid out and integrated, huge screen, all the features shown in soft buttons or activated on the glass stack. It is very nice and modern looking. If the 992 dash is anywhere close to that (I've not seen it) I would probably like it as well. Certainly the buttons and smallish PCM screen on my '17 .2 is functional, but pales in comparison.

The outside styling is much less polarizing, IMHO. Back to back (and I parked next to three 992s at the PEC ATL a month or so ago when I did my session in a 911T) they both look like 911s; it is unmistakable. I would say the design is an evolution, and I can't pick any flaws in it; in time, it will look normal, and the 991 exterior will just look dated. That's the problem with stylists; they are so far ahead of us in what is "coming" that when it arrives, it has to look "fresh" and to some, "different" equates to "bad". I quite like the 992 exterior.

Would I buy one (a 992?) Absofrigginglutely. As soon as they offer a base Carrera with a 7MT, and the first-year-German-car-bugs are worked out.

Promise didn't move threads, maybe another mod. I only combined to merge all the positive comments of those who love all recent 911 variants. ( some hating in one of these threads, but whatever. Just an off hand comment. Not wanging on anyone.) carry on.

So now my 991 thread is merged and it won’t even update over there to get 991 owner feedback. It just keeps moving down further and further.. Apparently there is no way for a 992 buyer to get honest 991 feedback without being protected by forum moderators. This is why I’m hesitant to buy into being a member. Too much big brother..

Good idea. Save your money. On the other hand, if you did the you could join the boys up in P&C and really get offended.

My wife and I went to our Porsche dealer in October to order a 992. After a careful comparison of 991.2 and 992 interior appearance and function, buttons vs touch screen, PDK actual shifter vs. nubbin, analog gauges with physical needles vs. electronic images, etc. we drove home with a new 991.2.

Don't get offended that what may have been a poorly initiated thread got derailed. No disrespect. And don't get offended that 991 owners aren't drinking the 992 Kool Aid yet. It's the natural order for new model intros.
I have owned Porsche's since before the 996 and then 3 996TT cars that I thought were awesome. Still get mildly irritated when I see 996 bashing on what was a solid car.
Spend the paltry $'s to become a member as the info here is invaluable even if everyone doesn't fawn over the 992 at this time.
I have moved across 4 generations of Porsche ownership and loved each new innovation even if originally slowly. I like the 992 but don't live it at this point. Some idiosyncrasies in design exterior and interior have not yet appealed to me yet. But never say never. I'll wait to see the TT and TTS versions.
If your thin skinned you'll have to callous a bit to get what you want here. But there is lots of knowledge.

Never would have derailed if they just left it in the 991. I believe the forum moderators have to take a little bit of that advice and get some thicker skin. I have pros & cons for each model. Clearly stated in my thread that got absorbed, and no longer has any way of serving it’s purpose. So paying a forum to be a member so they can play big brother... no thanks.

I stopped paying a long time ago when I got tired of trying to figure out how to renew my membership

The GT division will make the 992 look good.

Here's the uncomfortable truth.

The 991 interior looked outdated the moment it came out.

Here's the comfortable truth. The no-frills, analogue interior of my 991.1 GTS and 991.2 GT3T are perfect for my needs. At the end of the day, that's all that matters. The "993" will make the 992 look "outdated" and so forth. I feel fortunate to have found the sweet spot in the Porsche lineup for my needs now and until the wheels fall off.

Yes, let's talk about 996tts. Those are much more interesting than the 992 versus 991 stuff, especially since the 997.2 GTS/Turbo/GTXs are still better than both.

Did you really like the 996tts. I had 3 996tts: 2001, 2003 (750 hp) and 2004 Ruf 550 cab. I thought the 997 tts were a big step up from the 996 tts, but I put 80,000 miles on my 04 Ruf 550 cab. All 3 were bullet proof, even the 03 with 750 hp

Here is a picture of the Ruf and the 750 hp coupe from way back in 2004.
