991 so outdated looking

Always amuses me when someone new to the brand and this forum will post some comment about a past generation that in reality is only 6 years old from launch is "dated, archaic" so they can feel they have the new shiny penny. I like the 992 but not because of any aging issues in the other generations.
I'm perfectly happy with my "old 991 TTS", tiny GPS screen and all. I usually find in many things that the most modern looking things get older looking faster. Hmmm

To the OP's point, the 992 has some nice evolutionary design changes, particularly in the rear. The remainder of the car is so close to the 991, you have to eyeball it closely to recognize the model. It has a proportional, bloated look to it compared to a 991, which is a detail that will grow on me. Now the interior is a different story. The wide screen, nubbin and lack of analog gauges detract from the sports car theme and don't get me started on the cup holder. I've not driven the 992 yet, but my experience with new Cayenne and Panny loaners have me cold on the new interior theme. If this were my first 911, I'd deal with the design and probably love the whole car. It remains a weak value proposition to upgrade from the 991.2. Depending on options, upgrading from my 991.2 C2 to a 992 C2S would require writing a $55-65k check. Upgrading to the 992 C2 would make no sense at all. I think a lot of 991 owners would like a 992, we just don't find it that compelling from our current cars.

I’m sure the OP isn’t a troll but just trying get inputs from 991 drivers. Newer will always be faster and more powerful. It’s just a given.
Just as you can’t teach a old dog new tricks, I find myself more difficult in adapting to change as I age.
Don’t get me wrong, I like new tech. I think Porsche hit the nail on the head with the new Panamera and Cayenne but not so much with the 992. JMHO. As others have said, the 911 needs to a bit raw. The 992’s interior is too streamlined with rest of the Porsche lineup-lower cost/maximize profits...I get it. I’m sure I’ll learn to “like” the 992 over time but I just don’t have that “I gotta have it” feeling. The two things that I’m not very fond of on the 992 are the mini-me gear selector and the rear of the car, more specifically the lighting design and the diffuser/exhaust. It looks a lot like the Panamera. I do like the bubbly wide butt and the hp/torque gains. Oh and that Great Wall spoiler...not a fan.

To each his own. I admit that I'm an old school kind of guy so I don't like the 992 at all. The back end doesn't flow well and has an especially ugly and cheap looking 3rd brake light. The video game dash doesn't appeal to me and the pop-out door handles seem over the top. I have no doubt that the 992 is improved from a performance viewpoint but my driving skills don't require any more. IMO, the 991 style and functionality is superb and will always look great. I'm very happy with my crappy old 991.2GTS.

Taste is purely subjective ... were it not, we'd all be going after the same exact car/color choices, the same women (they have it good enough in the dating market as it is), and the same jobs... thank GOD taste is subjective and the market works.

This is an odd one. What say I merge the two 991 hater threads together? Unless someone complains, it will happen shortly.

In the end! Those on the forum love Porsche and every generation will be compared to the last. What’s wrong with getting everyone’s opinions on the two? It can only help PAG with their next generation of 911’s.
Please do merge them. And while the admins are at it, leave my thread on the 991 where it was meant to be.

So not much different than the 991 taking evolution in the wrong way from the 997? As stated above, the 997 wide bodies at least retains that bad boy vide unlike the non-"Turbo" 991s. I had 2 991 Turbos for DDs and just went back to a 2012 GTS for my daily driver.
The funny thing is, 996 owners were saying the exact same thing on this very forum back when the 997 came out. I suppose you were just not around to see that, but that was the general commentary when the 997 first started hitting the dealerships. The 996 owners then purchased 997s who then said the same thing about 991s, but your probably weren't around or driving 911s then either.
Then 991.1 owners were trashing the 991.2 on here when the 991.2 came out. So yeah, not much has changed. Another new model and another group of dudes owning the outgoing model being all vocal and negative about the new model.

in the end, most Porsche enthusiasts, and even current 991 owners will ultimately buy a 992 at some point within its life cycle. It’s only natural that current owners will try their hardest to disparage any upgrades made to the 992 when comparing.. until they own one. And I’m sure many will do the same when the next generation 911 comes out in 6-7 years

I do agree with you on this. Can’t believe it..

It’s only “natural” for someone who is immature or ties their self worth to a car. As I said before though, there are Porschephiles, many on Rennlist, who own multiple Porsches and sports cars and who simply don’t like the overall look of the 992. It’s OK to have different opinions without claiming that someone else’s opinions are manufactured.
