I just picked up one of the first Manual 992 c2S in my area and I have to say it is hands down one of the best cars I have owned. While I loved my 991.2 GT3 Manual, the 992 is a far more advanced and refined driving experience that does not compromise on delivering performance. PASM is a must on the new 992s if nothing else for the 10mm lowering. Mine is apexs minimalist, no sunroof, only essentials, PASM Bose and Sports exhaust. Love this car! Biggest game changer on the PDK vs 7 MT question for me is the looks of the manual shifter, classic compliment to the new retro interior.
Was waiting for someone to chime in on this. Old news and I posted the same on the other 992 manual thread...guess I gotta drive a 6 speed GT3 because the 7 speed in my 911 is the best manual Ive owned. Still dont get the hate but maybe one day Ill understand. Maybe after it gets worked in the feel improves or something? Never felt the ratios were off. Mines great and is a non-issue as far as choosing PDK vs manual.
This is such a silly argument in the end. Just pick the one you want. Anyone I know who truly loves manual would never take an automatic; if you cant say that for yourself then you dont love driving manual enough to want it over the PDK. Decision made!
I think part of the hate for the 7 speed comes from people who either owned or tried out the 991.1 7Spd, which did have some issues and was not as smooth and intuitive as the 7 speed in the 991.2. I drove both before my recent purchase of a base 991.2 with the 7 speed and it is a glorious gearbox to use. I am coming from a 987.1 cayman that had a 5 speed and was also great. Car journalist gave the .1 7spd a bit of a beating including Chris Harris, and I believe that is also causing some people to think that all 7spds in 911s are equal, which is just not the case. I am not sure if the improvements came with the .2 or if it came towards the end of the .1 but either way, It is an intuitive and fun gearbox to use. I was 100% sure that I didnt want PDK even though it is a better/quicker gearbox in almost every way except for engagement. To the OP: Get the 7spd, you wont regret it.

I had a 2017 carrera gts with the 7 speed manual, I much prefer the 6 spend hince selling for a gt3.....

While waiting for an oil change on my 2018 GT3 Manual, I test drove a Carrera T with a 7 speed manual and the gear ratios in 1st and 2nd are way too low for a performance car. I was barely moving and its hitting redline? The 6 speed in the 2018 GT3 with all the features is probably the best Ive ever drove for pure performance.

I also loved my 991.2 7 speed - I thought it was perfect. I'm hoping the same will be on my 992 when he finally arrives. Even if it isn't, it's still going to be better than the PDK for me. I love driving and the fun of it is in the gearbox.

Im enjoying my 7MT 992 immensely, and enjoyed my 991.2 7MT. Apparently the key to enjoying it is not owning a GT3 manual, and since Im aware of the risks now I can tread carefully.
The gearing on the 992 manual transmission is much taller, so it is not like the Carrera T in that regard. I am going to see if I can shoot a video of the driving in the 992 MT to give you all a flavor from a first person POV standpoint.
