My advice? Go drive the car with a PDK now and with a manual when one arrives and decide which you like better. I think that is the best advice you can receive here.
I bought a 2017 911 C4 with a sport exhaust because everyone on this forum and the dealer told me it was the way to go and I would get killed on resale without it. I didn't like the drone and got rid of the car. I got killed on resale, even with it.
Who really knows better what you will like more than you? As for resale, based on my experience, buy what makes you happy, not what will maximize resale.
Buying a car with options that other people say are "must haves" is a sure path to disappointment. I wouldn't own a 911 with a sunroof or anything past a 997.2 with sport exhaust as they are big negatives for ME (based on actual experience in Porsches I bought and paid for and drove myself lol). I couldn't care less what other people like or think, and certainly don't give any thought to what some imaginary person might or might not want when it comes time to sell the car.
Wouldn't buy a Porsche without a manual, don't care about resale value. I ordered mine my way and neither approbation nor reprobation from others were factors.
Eventually, manuals will be gone due to electrification, sooner rather than later.
I'm enjoying mine every time I turn my key, drive and shift for myself.
Remember that it's personal choice and happiness that matter, auto or manual can both please individually.
For what it's worth, no one has said they hate my car because it's a manual, they don't how it shifts, they apparently look at the car as a whole and are complimentary.
asking for this particular advice on the internet is insane. YOU are the only one that matters when deciding to row your own gears or not. I would love a manual... I think they are fun. I live in LA. Commuting in LA with a manual?.... not so much fun. It 100% comes down to what you want to do with the car. (the resale argument is actually the only valid point on here IF you are a buyer that is worried about resale)
Someone who wants to buy a 911, but doesn't know or want to drive a MT, will not even consider a MT car.
Someone who wants to buy a 911, but prefers a MT, will obviously consider a MT car in addition to all the PDK cars out there.
So that right there might explain the difference in resale values of MT v. PDKs.
Now, one might say, that those that want a MT 911, will not buy any 911 that comes with a PDK. Perhaps, but I think that universe of buyers is very very small.
In our little fishbowl here on RL, people spout off and say a lot of things ("this is my last 911 ever, I intend to drive this thing until the dash falls off because it's the last MT blah blah blah"), but when push comes to shove how many people in real lifewould completely forgo a 911 simply because it did not have a MT?
Sure, there might be a few (most of whom I bet are on RL), but I think the number is going to be very very small.
You can count me in that (admittedly small and sadly shrinking) group. I'd rather drink battery acid than have a PDK 911. And I have a PDK Macan - I hate it (the transmission, not the whole car).
Rather drink battery acid then have one of the best if not the best dual clutch transmissions on the market. Wow that's something. Not sure what but something.

At least is it the best "battery acid" in its class. I drinketh from the battery acid cupeth on a daily basis. Dropping a little acid a day keeps the doctor away, or so I have read.

The best of something you don't want is really not that appealing. I don't want the best sex change operation either...
Just when you think you’ve seen it all on this forum. You see the dumbest analogy to ever be read.. And we are now dumber, having read it.
Feel free to pick your own if you don't like mine. What's something you really don't like? Got something in mind? OK - now how do you feel about the 'best' version of that thing? Do you now suddenly really like it?
Also, just so we are clear, I am by no means trying to convince you or anyone else that you should not like PDK if you prefer it. Good for you, I am all about choice and people getting to pick what they like. I'm just pointing out that there are some people for whom automatics are a non-starter. It doesn't really matter how good the automatic is, for some of us, it will always be inferior to a manual. That's all. I hope you can see the way it is intended. Not as a jab at your preferences but as a way to communicate mine.

I didnt like the base C7 Stingray. BUT I love the ZR1!!
Not against your views of PDK and manual. Everyone has a preference. I just found the analogy a little overkill 😂
Have driven manuals most of my life and always loved changing my own gears. So that is not the issue, preference is totally understandable. Have had a dozen Pcars all manual till my TTS which is not offered in a manual. Loved the car so much for what it is and is capable of that the PDK became a new experience. I want to stay with the Porsche brand so i made an adjustment that I now really appreciate for how good it is. So you are right drive what you want and drink what you want too.
I would take a manual with 20 speeds over a PDK. Do a search on the 991 Forum and see what those with the 7MT say, like me. There are always exceptions but if you are even debating which one to get you will be bored with the PDK so get the manual, and if it bothers you do not use 6 & 7 and you will love it.
Well said Bob. Clunky? I don't get it. WAY faster? On a racetrack it is. OP, if you like MT get it. . For those that don't like MT the PDK is amazing. Personally, I could't imagine driving around the city and not shifting my own gears and H&T/matching revs on every downshift.
