The creativity is strong here. .... Make sure your hand doesn't slip off flipping the nubbin switch.

In this or another 992 thread, I saw the 991.2 and 992 backside side by side. Wow - what a difference. I do not know what you call the structural design element on either side of the rear window but the way the 991.2 tapers down from top to bottom versus the 992 is way more better to these eyes. The "flare" on either side of the rear view mirror is far more pronounced in the 997 and 991. Whenever I see the 997, I am always taken aback as to how darn good it looks from its derrier. The way the lines taper down in the back just really works for me. Not so much on the 992.

I agree 100% on the 997 rear end. It's arguably the most proportionally perfect 911 in that (and almost every) way. The 992 however, has the most out of proportion rear end of them all and I'd also argue the ugliest rear end of any 911 ever produced...

I just did a super quick test, on my wife's and my brother's reaction to this pic....and I told them both that these are the new 911s, which one you like the best. Guess what? they both picked the 991.2, saying it looks so much sharper than the one of the right.

If this is the way it goes, I need to do what Kenny Powers did as a CEO (lol - youtube it) - "I have 51% shares, and fires the CEO...lol"

In person, you will not mistake the 911 for a Panamera. Not even close. I just saw the two side by side last weekend.

It’s funny but it seems like the only people bashing the looks of the 992 are the ones who have yet to see it in person.

It has to look better in person. Seriously, the pic doesn't do it justice.

Bad lighting, bad camera, just have to see it in person.

Somehow these pictures give a viewer no idea on what the car looks like.

First was wait until the camouflage is off, then it's only a review video, then gonna have to see it in the wild, all that lighting at the shows is too much. What next, you have to buy it and it will grow on you??

What on earth can't anyone gauge an option on here??

That is true. I have to see it in person. But even before looking at in person, the nubbin and third brake light are 100% throwing me off. Third brake light is badly placed, I can not understand on why people are tolerating such bad design. It looks like a red pimple on the car.

Nubbin Gear Selector is well....goes without saying is an absurd implementation.

I love change but sometimes change is not well planned and results in absurdity....just like 996 headlights.

People who like 992, that is awesome go for it.

For me there is a substitute for my 911 now (all the older ones plus Singer - this one will require lot of extra work to acquire)

For me it is the feel every time I see the 911. I feel what an accomplishment and inspiration to look at my 911 in the garage....but if the car has warts and all, it totally ruins the effect/feeling. I knew the 996 wasn't for me (the lights threw me off...just did not want that in my garage).

I actually like the look of the entire rear end and fascia, third break light included. In fact, I sort of think it’s an ingenious design. I was talking about it with Magnus Walker at the Porsche private event at the LA Auto Show and it flows quite nicely.

As to the gear shifter, I’m ambivalent. But it does flow with the overall look and feel of the cabin. And I still think it’s equally of an eye sore as the 991 ***** *** PDK shifter.

That is good to hear that you like the 992...

Even if Magnus likes it, the 992 is a hard sell for me. It just doesn't work but I will reserve my final decision as soon as I see one in person. I am hoping that when I see it in person that it is good, and my decision changes.

It's totally cool that people like it. I'm happy for them. I have no reason to question their taste or opinion.

I think it is useful and fun to do a critical analysis with those who have a high sense of design taste and can relate to the discussion.

I could care less who does or doesn't like it. I don't buy things based on other people's likes. Could care less what Jerry or Magnus said about it, or what some Porsche marketing mouthpiece has to say.

I’m equally guilty of making judgments based on pictures alone.

Until I saw the Senna in person I thought the McLaren design team had gotten a bad load of acid before puttting pen to paper when designing the car. But after seeing it up close, the thing is prwetty damn amazing. Is it sensuous like, say, a Ferrari 458, no. But the damn thing has presence and just sparkles with a certain gravitas that few cars can pull off.
