Regarding the brake fluid exchange : make sure you trust your service department : most brake fluid exchanges at the dealer go like this : use a turkey baster to suck the reservoir dry, then fill it up. Done. There's your 250$. Also,if they are actually bleeding each caliper like they're supposed to,make sure they clean the caliper really well with water. Otherwise the paint from the calipers will vanish. Ask me how I know. I didn't do it,the dealer did...

REPLACE Engine Oil and Filter
• CHECK / Reset Maintenance Interval
• PERFORM Multi-Point Inspection: Fluid Levels, Belts, Brake Pads, Wipers, Tires, Interior
• INSPECT Air Filter Element
• REPLACE Pollen Pre-Filter Element (in Conjunction w/ Particle Filter)
• REPLACE Particle Filter

Additional
• PERFORM Brake Fluid Exchange Service (Every 2 Years, Regardless of Mileage)
• REPLACE Spark Plugs
it’s all pretty basic do it yourself stuff if you have any automotive mechanical, aptitude or experience. You’re looking at about two hours labor and maybe 250 in parts for spark plugs and brake fluid maybe a little more if you replace the cabin filters. Easy way to save yourself. Two grand

That's exactly why I do my own maintenance. ....or that last hard to reach spark plug doesn't get replaced. I think this is probably uncommon but I'm sure it happens.

Did sparkplugs and oil change and cabin/pollen filters. Well had some help from a good friend - and saved about 2/3 of the 4K my dealer wanted for the 2yr service.

I did my 2 year service today, I had some great help, Subshooter sent me a few Videos which was a lot of help, and he answered my questions I had.. Thanks again Mark!!
My dealer wanted $3700 for two year maintenance service. Also anybody that’s going to do the maintenance service themselves …first make sure you have a 14 mm 12 point deep socket thin wall. That is the only socket that will go through the passageway where you remove the coil from to get to the plugs. I picked up one today at NAPA with tax was under seven bucks. It’s actually a spark plug socket.

As I've recommended before, get this one. If you don't like a true American, blue collar worker supporter company like Lisle tools, get it under different names : chances are,it's just rebranded but still made by Lisle.
Why you should get this one besides the reasons stated above? Because of the integrated swivel head which will help you in tight spaces and will prevent you from ever loading the spark plug sideways, whether tightening or loosening, thus decreasing the chance of breaking the porcelain.

3/8th's or 1/2" drive?

Yes, I use a torque wrench 23 Newton meters for the plugs, 9.5 Newton meters for the coil bolts.
as far as a using a swivel headed socket, I don’t think that’s the optimal tool for this procedure. Just my opinion.🙂

I'm glad everything worked out for you! It cost me $456 for all the parts/fluids for my 2 year maintenance. I saved a ton doing it myself and it was fun too. I also know it was done right. Easy to do. The hardest part was replacing the inside cabin filter - only because I am not a contorsionist.

The hardest part I'd say was a) having the optionality of 3/8 extensions, and b) figuring out the right sequence of extensions to get the furthest plug in. I presume this job was more difficult on the 991 with the mufflers in the way?

Good tip from grant on the Hazet socket. Only german tools allowed.

also, these are pretty awesome. https://www.hazet.de/en/products/new...tion-light-set

Doing my 2 year service now after an oil tank replacement. $2400 here. If I didn’t live in a condo, I’d be all over learning how to do it all myself.
