Default OEM Tires - Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport R

So TYD actually provided me with a high res photo of the new beast - cool. But seeing Goodyear tires on it...odd. Which of you all have these on your 992 GT3 or other car, and what are your experiences with these tires so far? I already Googled the online reviews, so looking for your own experiences. Thanks!

Mine came with them. Been on track and have no issues at all. I thought they would suck, but I’ve really been impressed. Getting another set next week. I’ll then try the Cup 2s.

Thanks, raymort. I appreciate your experience - and how often you share here on these threads. Quite the endorsement to say you're impressed and ordering another set.

Are you sure you got the Rs? Can you provide a close up? Rs are usually afterwards thru dealer.

Great question: I can only say with certainty that they are Goodyears. I found 4 2021 news articles (probably secondary to a Goodyear press release) that said that the R was selected as the OEM tire for the 992 GT3. There were zero mentions of the RS for this car (though plenty of RS mentions for the GT2RS and previous GT3RS.

The Goodyear R is the stock OEM tire similar to Cup2 (not analogous to Cup2 R). I think the hotter aftermarket version of the Goodyears ends in RS…

The Goodyear R is similar/same as Dunlop Maxx Race2 (but rather than being more expensive than Cup2 in the 991.2 generation, the Goodyear branded version is less expensive and seems to be best bang for buck of the 3 OEM tires).

Be glad you didn't get the Pirellis. They grip ok, but are not up to the stress.

I’ve done a couple track days on them as well. Feel like my 991.2 Dunlop Maxx2 that I had . Good grip and even wear at hot temps front 30 rear 32. Same track as Raymort but 4sec slower😩

^^This.

The Eagle SS RS is the Goodyear "R" analog to the Cup 2 R. I don't think they are available for the 992 GT3.

Also, even though I spend stupid money sometimes, I haven't been able to find anyone, including Porsche, that has access to the Cup 2R. Thank God!! lol

I am not a tire expert by any means, but it seems to me the Cup 2 and F1 SSR are within the margin of error with respect to all of the other variables going on. Meaning, your tire pressures, alignment, driving style, etc, likely play a much greater role in performance on track than the difference between these two tires. Once that is maximized, then there may be a "better" tire for your set up. Just my thoughts.

For me, I like to push hard into hairpins, which heats up my tires. I punished the GYs for an hour straight last Sunday (18 full laps at COTA) after a day of driving and on the 4th track day, and I was still getting my best lap times and wasn't skating around. That's good enough for me.

Oh, and if you are a USAA member, there is a complicated way to get 25% off!

Is it possible to spec a CUP 2 R. A YouTuber mentioned that it was an option from factory.

From the US, I think you have zero option for selecting any tire. It is just a random one of the three available at the time when they produce your car.
