time will tell? The thing I’m waiting for is a picture of the drain fitting on the oil tank that has come off. Apparently there aren’t any on this board ,Interesting?

Lol don’t order from Walmart. False advertising. 🤦🏽‍♂️

update: there were two receipts in the box. One for me and one for a gentleman in New Jersey who ordered this formula. Looks like he’s getting the good stuff. SMH. What a cluster f

Here's an email I received from Mobil when asking about SPECIFIC differences between the ESP 10W-40 and the ESP X3 10W-40. As mentioned, not much more info without an NDA...but interesting that they are interchangeable in a Corvette...

"{name of the person I was in contact with} is out for a couple of days, so let me step in to help? There are a lot of "trade secret" details we will never be authorized to share. In most cases, the secrets aren't shared with me, so I can't slip and leak proprietary information.

The major focus is going to be on which OEM approvals appear on which oils. The only overlap between the two Mobil 1 ESP oils in 0W-40 will be the GM Dexos2 specification. I can recommend both oils in a late model Corvette but the "X3" version I can recommend to meet warranty requirements from Mercedes, VW, and you're already aware of the Porsche spec. In the Corvette, where I can recommend both, they are similar enough I would recommend the exact same change interval, and can even recommend safely mixing the two.

A more practical difference for you, however, would be that Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 is a discontinued product this year. It has been replaced by Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40, which also carries only GM approval. Once retailer supplies of the Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 are depleted, you won't find it again.

Short of a specific business "need to know" accompanied by a vetting process and a non-disclosure agreement, this is as much detail as we can share regarding your original question."

I was about to be like WTF are 991.2 owners supposed to do, but I think those cars use FS, which hasn't been nixed?

Someone posted this Porsche document referring to the issue of the oil tank drain fitting and plug coming detached from the tank. Please read attached instructions. My previous advice received and relayed to only drain when hot seems to have been in error! And there is a new drain plug part number available.

New procedure is loosen the plug when cold (but don't remove it or let oil drain) and then lightly tighten it to 10 Nm before running engine (to heat to full temp) and then drain and perform oil change. Then replace drain plug with the new version and part number to prevent an issue (in future, I assume it's normal procedure to drain when hot)

I was able to get my hands on one of the new drain plugs (with "B" at end of part number) at the dealer - the difference is very subtle, but the rubber O-ring is slightly smaller gauge on the new one and the top of the plug now has letters engraved in it (so if you see letters on the exposed part of the plug on your car, you already have the newest one).

Here are 2 pics of new one (original had smooth top and very similar profile - the difference in o-rings is too subtle to bother with photos).

Just received the oil, 2 days early!! It’s the correct 0-40 C40
Autozone shipping the oil in the original Mobile1 box (6qt box) I will order 12 quarts next time.

According to the PDF, drain the oil hot. Any concerns in draining it cold?

Hot keeps any particles suspended in the circulating oil and they are removed with the oil. Cold the particles settle and stay in the engine. carl

Right, especially since there is only one brand and version of oil approved now (Mobil 1 ESP X3 C40 0W40 or Audi-labeled version of same).

I heard that if you strip the drain out of the composite pan, you have to drop the engine to change the pan, and it's a thing that is happening here and there.

Yes. See the tech bulletin that GrantG shared several pages above. That's exactly what happens. I just got my oil changed at the dealership and printed that document out and handed it the service manager when I dropped off my car. I don't trust these folks have their **** together.

A new thread with 1 page of how to perform an oil change would be great.. Hopefully in the near future LOL.
