I really don’t think I would use anti-seize. Remember that you risk having that stuff contaminating the oil and running through the engine.

If you insist on applying something to the threads and/or o-ring (which I really don’t think is necessary or helpful), just use a little of the same motor oil.

Thanks…Very good point…. I didn’t think about it contaminating the oil

Anyone have a line on where to get this? I ordered the 6q box on amazon, and the seller is putting regular ESP in an open X3 box.

Amazon Amazon

Any anti seize on threads will mean over torquing, I would not do it.

I agree what I did is put silicone grease just on the O-ring .that allows it to seat better and keeps from sticking ..carl

The only approved oil for our car is 0W40.

Are there any consequences of having two different viscosities of oil in the motor?

Since on average only 4 litres is drained out in an oil change, you’re still going to have half of the oil as 0W-40 from the factory/dealership.

I’m not going to mess around with mixing & matching. On a $100G motor I’ll wait to drive the car if I have to.

I guess we could start a list and just mention if you experienced any problems with the drain plug. I just changed mine about a week ago and no issues ..the plug came out relatively easy. I was very careful not to over torque it. Set it at the factory recommendations of 15 foot pounds. I know GRANT has changed his as he started this thread up and has not had any problems. So far that’s two of us who else?
I ordered all of the parts & supplies before I read about the drain plug issues on this thread. Was planning on doing my first oil change in a couple of weeks, but now I’m weary.

I’m literally on the fence. If I ruin the drain plug will it be covered under warranty? Even if it is, not sure I want the entire engine dropped on my car. I might wait for a recall or more info about the problem before attempting on my own.

it’s only installed with 15 pounds of torque, mine came off easy not a big deal. I did have the engine hot if in fact that makes a difference.? I don’t think a recall will happen. interesting that nobody on this form has reported personally Experiencing the problem.

looks as though Porsche made changes to the shop manual. Is there a TSB on the topic? A wait until it happens approach

I don’t think mixing viscosities is an issue in itself (aside from the fact that anything other than 0W40 is not approved), but it can be an issue to mix brands (since there could be issues with mixing the disparate additive packages).

Not a critical issue - just not optimum.

The Mobil site does NOT have the ‚regular‘, non X3 labeled ESP 0W-40 listed. If you search and select ESP 0W-40 it always shows the x3 version. Tried to find technical specs differences between the two but that was not possible. Sent a note off to Mobil an am waiting for an answer. I think they may be exactly the same, but will wait for their answer. Will post as soon as I get it. Would be nice if they used a more clear differentiation in their nomenclature (I.e. EXP instead)…

They are not the same. I’ve seen ESP and maybe X2 at Autozone and only X3 is Porsche C40 approved. Look for Porsche C40 on the rear of the bottle.

X3 is the only oil on the market (besides relabeled Audi oil) that is both 0W40 and C40 (both required for our cars)
