M9 fits much better on mine. I think I got a Torx to fit also, before identifying the triple-square. I believe the whole reason they went from a common 8mm hex on 991.2 to an M9 XZN was to make it more difficult and persuade us to pay the dealer…
BTW, I wouldn’t be surprised if the old 8mm hex plug would fit the same threads.
Understood.
By fitting properly I mean going all the way in and engaging all the corners entirely without any sort of movement/wiggle.
I can think of a bunch of sockets I have, torx,Allen, extractors, which would fit,but from my experience, you want to use the exact one that's designed for that particular oil drain plug, otherwise there's a high chance of stripping it being aluminum and pretty tight.
Is everyone having their lights reset pro bono by the dealer? My dealer isn't so kind. I have been looking into a new reset tool for the RS and my Panamera and the answer seems to be I need a PIWIS.
Pretty sure I’ve tried an M10 XZN with no success. Maybe I’ll try another brand like Carl…
Those Titan Chinese tolerances Carl is using are not the most accurate. LOL!
I trust it's an XZN9 like you're saying Grant. Buy the VIM set I've linked above,I have a different set made by VIM that doesn't have XZN9 and they're very shallow : they come in extremely handy, especially for those pesky Audi oil filter housings...And they're made in Taiwan, much better tolerances in Taiwan!

Pretty sure my Autel will do it but haven't tried...
But then again,I also have PIWIS...
I am really interested in this too. I've been searching for a while with no luck. I have the icarsoft POR V 3.0 which works great on my 981 and 991.2 but does not work on my GT3 even though they advertise it works on 992s. I've worked with their support team to troubleshoot it but nothing has worked.

I haven't asked. They were nice enough to give me a DME report though for no charge.

I was told this would work but it's too expensive for me. My icarsoft was a couple hundred bucks.

If you're in NYC area or whoever is,I will try resetting it for free,no problem...
So, a little update on the XZN drain plug size. I went to the hardware store and bought a set of XZN metric sockets (a cheap set - was $28 for 10 sizes). I could not get the M10 to fit in either of the drain plugs that I have on hand:
I am not certain, but I think one is new and one is used (possible that both are used). Interestingly, one wouldn't fit at all (not even start to insert) and one almost fit (seems like maybe it would have fit with a good smack from a rubber mallet - this is the one in the photo above). But I didn't want to damage the tool or plug. M9 fit easily in both (but maybe the fit is slightly looser than intended?).
So, I am not 100% certain whether some of the plugs are M9 and some M10 or whether they are all intended to be M10, but due to either manufacturing tolerances or damage, sometimes only an M9 will fit. Or maybe M9 is always correct.
Unrelated, I ordered a new oil change kit (filter and drain plugs) from Suncoast last week and should be here late this week or early next week.
So, I will try this again on a plug that I know is brand new (maybe torquing and loosening the plug with an M9 socket does enough damage to make an M10 no longer fit) and report back.
Long story short: If you can get an M10 socket to easily fit, then use it. If not, nice to also have an M9 on hand.
Today’s update: I received brand new drain plug from Suncoast (genuine Porsche part) and the new stubby M10 XZN socket I bought from Amazon (Capri Tools) only partially inserts into the plug (about half way seated) and the M10 socket from my cheap 10-piece set from my prior post doesn’t insert at all.
Both stubby M9 from Capri and regular M9 from cheap set insert easily but are very slightly loose.
To me, seems like these drain plugs are 9.5mm
Or maybe these cheap sockets are just out of spec?
