Manual Transmission Feedback

I have LWBS+MT and it is a great combo. Every drive feels special. Spec the car how you want it.

ok,
I owned a GT3 manual for a year and a half, its really not that great of a manual transmission...maybe acceptable in a 911S or perhaps GTS, but Porsche could have done much better in pairing it to a GT3
The level of performance and speed these GT3 cars are reaching are really only made completely possible with the PDK/S
thats why you will never see one in an RS

nothing I tell you will change your mind....you remind me of me after the 911R came out and I convinced myself that I just had to have the 991.2 GT3 manual.
first off, have you driven one in all conditions yet?

Yes I have driven the 991.2 Manual multiple times. I have made number of posts here where I found:
- Clutch to be very light and hard to understand capture point
- Clutch engagement was easy but it was very quick and not gradual
- I found the the shifter to have rubbery feel with too much slop (while in gear or neutral) and throws were too long
My hope is the last issue will be fixed with numeric cables and numeric shifter mod. But I dont know to what extent. I also dont know how and if the clutch can be fixed.
When compared to BMW manuals, Porsche’s manual is worlds ahead. But when compared to my tremec manuals in C7 ZR1 and GT350, it is a few steps behind. This could just be because cables will never feel as precise as a linkage rod or it could just be that the transmission is built this way for a reason. Maybe porsche wants to make the manual cars to be very easy to drive by the least skilled manual driver, I have no idea.
Why am I giving up the RS? The only thing I dont like about RS is transmission. And its not a not like of PDK but rather miss manual engagement. Also PDK wants you to always drive the car hard. But everything else about the RS I like OVER the new 992. The looks, the interior (i love the lizard green interior and i really dislike the very dark 992 interior, also the steering wheel of RS is perfect. Its smaller and thinner), the wing placement and size, the wheel louvers, everything is amazing. I wish they made a manual. I just dont know I got this manual itch in my head that I am trying to scratch and I will regret it after getting the car because I am now forgetting all the shortcomings of the manual.

if I owned my current GT3RS WP and a C7 ZR1 Manual I would be done. the need to appreciate the pinnacle evolution in manual and auto would be achieved, both fantastic cars.
the manual in the ZR1 is the feel I like and expect in a manual...
is your RS a 2019 WP?

I know what you mean, the two cars do complement each other

you love your 2019 RS, I can tell by the way you speak about it...and you should,
I gave up a 2018 GT3 manual to get my RS WP and if asked to trade back is laughable to me.
it was a PTS BRG...beautiful car, but I don't miss it...the RS is why Im in the Porsche camp...pure performance and total engagement for me.

I’m not sure how anyone can say the manual in the GT3 isn’t the best out there. Laughable to hear the Corvette manual being world class. I’ve owned them all. No lift shifting a 4 to 5, I’ve only been able to do in the Porsche, GM product is great, league’s ahead of BMW or Ford… but Porsche does it best in my experience.
A) I’m a guy who regretted my 991.2 GT3 RS purchase, and always wanted to get my 991.2 6 speed manual back. The RS was like driving a video game on track… the GT3 manual was pure bliss.
B) I have a 992 Manual on order, and won’t make the mistake of trading for “An RS is an RS”… sorry… for me “a manual is a manual”. They’ll make RS’ long after manual trans cars.
Best regards,
Dave

doing research and test driving before a purchase is normal, but this much indecisiveness is not.
you either feel it or you don't and move on.
