We’ve just moved house and are looking for options on self-leveling products to use for a garage floor.
It’s a new build and has a basic tamped concrete floor. It has a few minor surface drying cracks. It gets quite dusty and we’re looking for some kind of self-leveling/latex floor that could be suitable as a top surface and also that might be covered with PVC tiles in the future sometime.
The garage will be used for storage, especially children’s play things. We want to make sure that whatever’s used is safe for children to play on too.
We’ve asked around and so far ideas are Ardex K 301 or Weber 4610 Industry Top.
We don’t know much about the differences between these two products, and just wondering if anyone could help?
We’re open to ideas and would appreciate any tips if there’s anything better thanepoxy flooring Raleigh. There seem to be so many products available and we want something that would be able to last many years and not crack.
We’re also looking for a company who would be able to do this for us but we don’t really know what kind of trade this would be? We’ve seen specialist industrial floor companies who also do residential, but don’t know if this would be out?
Thanks in advance
For what it's worth, I wanted to do epoxy, but the underlying concrete floor was pretty poor (I assume a bit like yours). I thought it would be too difficult to make it right, so I went with Racedeck tiles as a compromise. Although Racedeck (or any vinyl tile solution) wasn't my first choice, I ended up very glad I chose it and it would be my first choice if I were to do another garage. The reason I prefer it is because it's simple maintain, durable, easy and cheap to swap out a tile if one ever gets damaged, but the biggest advantage is that the floor is never cold, even in winter. Concrete solutions are typically cold, and act like an "infinite heat sink" that will suck the heat out of you if you stand on without shoes. With Racedeck, it's never cold at all and you can walk on it with bare feat or socks (because it feels that clean in addition to not being cold). The Racedeck surface also "gives" more than concrete, making it safer for kids to play I'd think. For those reasons alone, if kids are going to play on it, I would go with Racedeck and not worry about the imperfections in the concrete.
Ha! You're not the first person to say that. I have another 2 car garage directly beneath that one (my lot is sloped) which is the home gym and workshop.. This one is just the showroom.
Love this look. Am currently having a carriage house built and plan to epoxy the concrete slab floor. Did you have any grit or other source of non-skid added to the epoxy? I want to avoid having a slippery surface when wet.

Yes, that is genuine, expensive Racedeck. I don't skimp when it comes to my garage. To the point when today I'm taking this crap up and going with a paint-based solution. With 1400 square feet, I may as well lit hundred dollar bills. And...you would not believe how much stuff lives under the tiles.
FYI, RaceDeck warps as well, nor did they answer my emails about it. Floor is laser-flat underneath it.
I know I'm responding to an ancient post but holy crap. That isn't a great advertisement for the manufacturer of these things. I'm about to go the Costco route and I hope I don't regret it. Anyone used this product?

Had that one in my last house and loved it! You will love it as well! Easy to install and keep clean....one of the things I miss the most about my old house. Picture below added for reference:

I had that happen once on one section of my Racedeck tiles from fluids that had spilled and stayed there a long time. I'd had the tiles about 5 years at that point, but I contacted Racedeck and they sent me new replacement tiles for free. It's been another 7 years since them (13 years in total) and I haven't had the issue reoccur. That's part of what I like about Racedeck, if something happens, you can just replace the affected tiles cheaply in minutes, but those are the only ones I needed to replace.
I think it's a rare set of circumstances that causes Racedeck to do that in my experience and from others -- much as I love Costco, I'm not sure it would do better under the same circumstances. Go onto garagejounal.com, the CEO (Jorgen Moller) of Racedeck is active on that site and he is very responsive. You'll see him chiming in on Racedeck threads and I think you can PM him directly. I'm confident he will take care of those failed tiles -- he did in my case, for free with no shipping charges. I think there is also a GarageJounral discount code for Racedeck.
EDIT: It looks like Costco's Motofloor may be made by Racedeck and is reportedly lighter duty (I would research more to be sure, threads aren't always accurate): https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/...otofloor.7107/

Getting mine done this weekend, granite style finish. Will post before and after once all is done.
Forgot to post the update... Very happy with how it turned out, and got me to do a much overdue garage reorg/overhaul. Top notch work from Granite Garage Floors Atlanta
