GTS vs Turbo S?
I was just at the track in a base Targa, and my buddy had a Turbo S Cab. I have much more track experience than him, but he was killing me (it was raining pretty hard). I now really want a Turbo S, but I have a Targa GTS coming up for delivery in a few weeks. Should I cancel and get a Turbo S? ( I would be out $5000 and would have to wait about 4 months+ for a car). Will the GTS be enough car? I could lease the Targa GTS for 2 years and then get a Turbo S, or should I wait for the 992 Turbo S to come out? Any suggestions?

I must be missing something - Why would he care ? It'll be a brand new car. Are you saying that normal scheduled maintenance on a Turbo S is exorbitantly expensive compared to a 991.2 GTS (which is also turbocharged) ?
I also don't understand why the OP would lose $5000.00. The deposit isn't normally non refundable. Is this a Canadian thing ? If so, it's clearly the French Canadians fault

A top heavy RWD base targa is spanked on a very wet track by a Turbo with a 160HP and AWD advantage?
Not exactly a surprise, and not exactly a great reason to cancel a GTS purchase.
The AWD and huge horsepower of the Turbo can mask a lot of driving sins. But get it right in a RWD GTS and it will feel much more rewarding. IMHO of course...

I'd get the Turbo S. I currently have the 991.2 S MT and it's a fast fun car. I love it. I just wish it had more power. I know that a lot of people will say that that is blasphemy but you can never have enough power. I personally will be switching up to the 992 TTS when it's released. For now I want to enjoy the MT as much as I can.

Disregard.

The funny thing is my buddy who got a Turbo S was initially going to get a C4S, but it was only about $30G more for the Turbo S, so he told me it was better financial decision to go for the TTS. My fully optioned GTS Targa is about $191,000. I'm sure I can order a well-optioned Turbo S for only $30,000 more, which on a 3 lease only works out to only $ 5G per year. The problem is that my trade in for the GTS was a Ferrari 458, so I won't have to pay tax on the GTS lease. I'm not sure I can do that on a TTS that I haven't ordered yet. Live and learn.

They are totally different cars...you could just do an exhaust and flash the ecu on the targa and that will help it...nothing will compare to a turbo S but do you need all of that power or do you prefer the open air top and fun of a targa...really it's up to what you will use it for

Did you lose the DE race....last time I checked, there were no winners in a DE
But yeah on a track with some longish straights, the Turbo S is going to walk all over a non-turbo. I'd bet an average amateur (Advanced DE) would have a faster lap time in a Turbo S than a pro driver in a GTS on a long fast track.
In the end, buy what you want. Both are great cars and very capable. They are sports cars, not race cars.
