Only in America!!! Over here in UK the insurance company forces me to carry this bloody tracker device. Without it, Vodaphone call the polis. You're supposed to not keep it with the key for obvious reasons but hey ho. Found this nice little pouch for it from Cobra. Hate carrying clutter.

You have to have a tracking device for your insurance company?

Here's what I carry. I clip it onto a side belt loop in the morning, and take it off when done driving in the evening. With Keyless Go, no need for leather pouches.

Yep. Depends on insurance company when above a certain value. Then in addition to insurance premium, you pay £235pa to vodaphone for monitoring that whenever your car moves, the tracking fob is with it. Hence why you shouldn't really attach the fob to the key. You can get insurance without but then premium higher.

I bought one from Suncoast and found it totally useless. It definitely makes the key way more bulky in your pocket and I also could not figure out the black string vs silver ring. I sent it back and got my $129 refunded.

On contrary with keyless entry and drive I found it very useful. Having the other keys and Porsche key in the pocket the pouch prevents accidental buttons push.

FWIW - I've bought two sets "yellow" key sides from two different Chinese sources. Neither matched all that well with the yellow interior accents (sport chrono dial, stitching, etc) on my 2018 Carrera T. Closer to mustard yellow rather than Racing Yellow. Still more interesting than the stock flat-black.

Totally worth it to me due to a number of reasons.
  • I normally have multiple P-cars and it helps me differentiate between cars.
  • I normally have keyless entry and drive, which I then never have to remove key from pouch - love this feature.
  • The OEM key WILL eventually look like crap without any protection
  • Prevent accidental button push (as mentioned above by previous poster)

If if you attach it to the silver hoop, pulling the leather strip to clip in on the pouch actually pulls the key inside the pouch itself. That will not happen if you attach it to the string. It leaves the key half way out. Also might come out of the pouch half way in the bag.

still trying to figure out what the string is for
Think of the black string loop as a secondary security method to attach should the primary hoop method fail.
Then, it will be held in place properly by the hoop but remain further tethered to the case w/ the black string piece.
Not sure who I learned that from, but I've done it this way the past 4 P-cars.

It's a pain in the azz to attach both, but worth it IMO.
Additionally, it's easier to remove the small screw to disassemble the attachment point on the key itself.
Once done, screw it back on to key. And since I'm OCD, I use a tiny bit of locktite.

You've sure got a lot of first world problems and issues over there. It's just a key! Bet you spec the expensive optioned aluminium fuel cap too that no-one can see, including you except when you fill up. No disrespect meant, it's a nice position to be in.

In Oregon, lots of people would get to see a special gas cap since we owners aren't allowed to pump our own gas. That said, I certainly didn't feel it was worth spending the money just for their enjoyment, presuming that they even notice.

I must be missing something. Why put your key in your pocket when with Keyless Go you can simply clip it on a side belt loop and wear it all day ti home for the night. No scratches, no dings. No worries. What am I missing??

Dude

You have to admit that a spirited discussion about key colors and leather pouches is a welcome diversion from discussions of "which exhaust/tune/wheels" should I get and threads asking questions that can be answered by looking in the owner's manual.

If you want substantive discussion stick around for 10-15 years. Buy that time, the forum will be worried about actually fixing things.

Or, go buy a 928 and join us on the 928 forum where key colors are not discussed.
