I bought a Cayman S with warranty that had been punched 9 months prior, never titled, not a formal demo, had only 70 miles on it, and they still put 'Used' in the New/Used car section of the purchase agreement.

Either way, warranty punched cars are always going to sell at a bigger discount.

What? It's a MY17 car, the current model, produced in January of this year.

the 991.2 was released in March of this year as a MY17. therefore the MY17 model year will be running for 18 months.

It is new since it has never been titled. I used the quoted "new" since the first owner is not getting the full warranty.

Typically the warranty is started on a new car when the dealer takes whatever incentive the manufacturer is offering (trunk money) and marks the car as sold.

Supply and Demand does affect discounts. One dealer (Newport Beach) told me back in May that they were selling all 991.2's at sticker, would take your deposit, put your name on the list, and would let you know when you were assigned a build date. Pretty depressing. Specifically made the point that allocations were in such short supply, that it would be crazy to offer a discount. This is one data point from one SA, other's may be treated differently.

Fortunately there are 4 other dealerships within an hour's drive, and most were willing to negotiate. I am very pleased with my 5.5% (cash purchase), and should take delivery within a couple of weeks -- ship off Costa Rica right now, headed to San Diego.
