It might not be fake. Porsche doesn't make gas caps the buy them from a vendor. That vendor might/probably manufactures them in China. The ones on eBay could some that slipped out the back door of the factory.

Once again, doesn’t mean it is a bad part.

If you compare the counterfeit to the genuine you will notice differences. They aren’t 1:1.

Here are the facts:
- We have evidence that counterfeit Porsche parts exist.
- There are guidelines from Porsche to identify counterfeit items via the packaging. The item in question fails this test. Therefore we know at minimum the packaging is counterfeit.
- We have numerous sellers, from the same location, infamous for counterfeiting goods, selling the same item, at too good to be true prices.
- The item in question is not the same as the item sold by Porsche. The outer shell appears similar, the inner is different. The items are not 1:1. They are literally different parts.
- We have zero indication that they came from the same factory other than the outside looks similar, and that they both are gas caps.
- The packaging on the genuine item states that the item is made in Germany (Is Porsche lying?). The packaging on the Ebay items state that the item is made in Germany (They wouldn't lie, right?). Therefore, if the Chinese sellers are selling items from the same factory, they must be importing them from Germany, then reselling them from China.
-----------------------------------
So we have two theories
1. The carlos_carerra theory, that there are numerous Chinese ebay sellers importing gas caps from Germany that are made in the same factory as the Porsche part, but are actually different models (because they are not the same cap), then making their own Porsche packaging (because we can prove that the packaging is counterfeit), then selling on Ebay for less than 50% of retail price.
or
2. Someone in China counterfeited the genuine Porsche part, and they are being sold on Ebay
----------------------------------------------------
and once again... this doesn't mean the counterfeit is a bad part.

I hate to tell you Porsche's suppliers use manufactures in China who then do run of "knockoff" parts using the same tooling, molds, materials, etc and sneak them out the back door to sellers on eBay, Alibaba, Amazon, etc...

The entire USA/China trade war is based on exactly what I stated. The Trump administration has listed tens of thousands of examples in the press releases. Do you think auto parts are somehow different?

Purchased these RS Spyder Design wheels from another forum member. Finally had a chance to get them installed a few days ago along with some fresh rubber. The previous Carrera Classics were too shiny for my taste. I prefer the more understated platinum satin finish of these wheels.

Are you using any kind of spacers to make them fit?
