Default New Shoe Install Tonight.....

Needed more rubber on the road for an up coming spirited drive.

Michelin PSS wore pretty darn even over the entire tread and still felt extremely confident in the dry..... but toss a little rain into the mix watch out.

Before:

After: I've aways liked these wheels on other cars.

nice! how many miles did your PSS last? I'm actually going the opposite direction as you and replacing my carerra IIIs with sport technos. Beautiful car either way...seriously regretting not getting the 911 in silver these days. The car just looks more expensive in silver to me for some odd reason now.

About 17K on the PSS's.... and not easy miles either.

Mine is in platinum silver.... if you look at mine in close proximity to the other 2 silvers folks salivate over mine looks brown

Silver does stay pretty clean and so far the paint has really held up well. 27K miles on car at this time.

This is a hard one because when you changed wheels you also put on new tires, but do you notice any difference going to the 3lbs lighter Carrera S wheels?

CSK, looks great.

I assume your car was delivered with Pirelli P-Zeros? For dry performance only, what was best? The MSS or P-zeros?

Thanks.

Did you know that Michelins come with a treadwear warranty?

Yes it's for 15K in our case since we can't rotate like a normal car.... 30K if you can.

Michelin PSS were fantastic compared to P-Zero's. In the Pirelli's defense my CPO'ed car with 2700 miles had a bad alignment (camber was off by a few degrees) when I picked it up so the P-Zeros cupped and vibrated really bad when they wore down and they had to go at 9K. The Carrera S wheels were take offs from a dealer so they have the OEM P-Zero's so I'll see if this set wears better.

I just changed wheels tonight so I will see later on today when I drive to Chattanooga. The new rubber alone will probably make the steering feel a little lighter so it might be hard to tell.

Very hard. What you should notice is the lighter wheel slams into bumps less and bounces (not quite the right word) over them more lightly. But new tires have that same smooth ride feeling compared to the worn ones you just had so they'll probably mask a lot of that. Still, you're the first I've seen switch from Porsches heaviest to lightest wheel. It would be nice to know.

Well your rear tires did have more wear on the inside shoulders.
Can I ask what your rear camber was?
I run -1 ⅞

What are you doing with your old ST Weels?

Don't have a clue about camber settings..... nothing special just whatever the OEM setting would have been

On the wheels.... I'm planning on putting some winter rubber on one of the sets at some point in time.

Had a good run on the roads around Highlands, NC.

The P-Zero's hung in there really well. The only negative is they are quite a bit noisier than PSS's on the same roads. Quiet on newer paved roads but the older roads with more exposed aggregate the car sounds like a truck.

Nice info in this thread. I'd be interested in your unsprung weight change opinion too. I had Classic IIs and went to painted ST wheels. I can not feel or sense any difference! But at almost a 10% difference I would think we would! BTW, normally I'd recommend the winter tires on your ST wheels as they are easier to clean (winter temps are cold water wheel cleaning) but the 11.5" rears are not ideal for 295s (recommended winter tire size). And re silver, I wanted a '14 Rhodium over my plat silver until I saw them side by side. Too much blue in R. GT silver is too much extra $ & rare! Imho

In thinking about the weight difference of the wheels and ride quality, with my C4S having PDCC and all of us having magnetic adjustable shocks I bet the change is less noticeable to us but more noticeable to our components and how hard they have to work to keep the car steady. When I had my 00 S4 with a conventional suspension and went from gosh heavy Miglia Mille wheels to light weight OZ Superleggera the change was very noticeable.

I wonder if the new full tread tires weigh about as much more than the old worn tires, as the new wheels weigh less than the old ones?

I also wonder about the magnetic adjustable shocks on your 991…. ?

Had to look this thread up to updare. This set of PZero`s are pretty darn good. Even wear and once they had a few miles on them, actually got quieter. I'm currently at 36K.... with 9K on this set of tires and I have to say I like them. Now to see how many miles i can get out of them.
