Default advice request

Slightly off topic, but definitely the right crowd to advise me...

I'm currently a 987.2 boxster owner. My brother is leasing a 2014 base 991 c2 with mostly comfort options. I like the color, and my only two requirements are a manual and sunroof. He's had some knee surgery, and wasn't able to drive it for a time. It will have around 8k miles when he turns it in in March, and is accident, problem, scratch and ding free. He will let me buy it out at the end if I want to.

I don't think the buyout price is great at $70,675, but the known history and low miles are worth something to me. Are there any strategies that would allow a dealer to buy the car back from PCNA, then sell to me at market?

I wouldn't mind PSE, PASM, and Sport Chrono, but can live without them. I'd probably add an aftermarket exhaust and learn to heel-toe better for that rev blip. I think off lease purchase comes with CPO? Here are the options:

BASE 911 Carrera 84,300.00
342 Seat heating (front)
345 Steering wheel heating
427 20" Carrera Classic Wheels
446 Wheel center caps with colored Porsche Crest
487 7-speed Manual Transmission
541 Seat Ventilation (Front)
583 Smoking package
653 Electric Slide/Tilt Sunroof in Glass
686 SiriusXM® Satellite Radio Receiver
844 Multifunction steering wheel
911 Model Designation "911"
AG Standard Interior in Black
N0 Agate Grey Metallic
XXG Clear Glass Taillights

^^^ off lease Purchase doesn't come with a CPO. Can be negotiated I'm sure. I'm not very up on the lease options. Usually can be had for around 2K when buying used.

At $70K with mileage under 10K, it "may" be a "fair" deal just because the low miles. I personally wouldn't do it. The 84K is the base price. With the options added, I think it may be around a 100K sticker car? You'd have to find out.

Bump up your budget to $75K, and a much better optioned S model can be had! I'd go in that direction.

For example... Here's what $74K gets you today for a low optioned, low mileage, S model with a CPO.

This is an example of what can be had. The deals should be getting even better by next March when this other lease is up and still locked in to a 70K buyout. Porsche isn't known for having attractive buyouts in most of their leases.

Didn't look at this one too closely, but a better optioned S model with CPO, low miles and $80K. Can even get it for under $80K with negotiation.

These are good examples. Most good buyers are out there searching harder than I am! I just try and find unique ones at decent prices. I don't want to bog down the thread with your average builds priced at average prices. I find the diamonds

Ah, isn't that always the case :-) Thanks for the clarification on CPO. I'll check that out. Since it's still a few months away, I have time to keep checking this thread and local options. I don't need to commit anything to them yet.

Awesome. Thanks for the post and good luck in your search. I think in the $70-75K range you should have some decent choices with a CPO in a lower optioned, lower mileage 991S model.

As shown above, there is one now for $74K. Keep in touch with your decision later!

STG991,

There seems to be a sizable price difference in 12' v. 13'/14' 991s. Is there a reason for this? Do earlier 991s have more issues? TIA

No reason other than age. Older model year cars are worth less.

2012.5's get a bad rap sometimes because the confusion of 997.2's being 2012's as well. The 991.1's have not changed other than some basic options from 2012.5-2016 which makes finding a great deal easier on virtually the same cars. Obviously you have the different variants 4/Targa/GTS that aren't available in all years. For example, the 4/4S wasn't available in 2012.5. Started 2013.

There was a change over valve (solenoid) recall campaign issue where they were replaced in the early models. It seems like failure of these has come up with all years. Regardless, nothing affecting resale values. Reliability wise, all years of the 991.1 have been the same and overall faired very well.

I think that's a really bad pic - I thought it was lime gold at quick first glance. When I read the description I went back to look at the other pics
Eduardo can probably tell us for sure but this is what stone grey comes as with Google search
