Beautiful car.

I'm still shocked how many guys have found their cars on this thread!

Here are a couple right when they delivered it. I'm planning to have the inserts of the techno wheels powder coated black next week along with tinting the windows. It's too hot down in Texas not to! Any advice on what to look out for with the wheel painting? The local Porsche dealer recommended a company that will come to my house, remove the wheels and transport them over to Houston. There they strip the entire wheel, powder coat it black, and then machine finish the face. They then apply the clear coat. Their turn around time is 48 hours. Does this sound about right? Should the insert be a gloss, semi gloss or matte black? I'm trying to figure out what would make the wheels pop more!

Start an "intro" thread about your car and story. Also a good resource for some advice from other Rennlisters. I'd like to ask some questions and offer comments about your wheels too rather than bogging down the thread here. Most guys just look here for recent for sale posts and better not to dilute it.

Gbree just got a car last week he saw on here (one of the many) and started a thread:

This car is VERY attractive at this price. Over 40K off sticker. Maybe get a grand or two shaved off that price to cover transport? I think it's priced to move now. Less than 4K miles.

It's a nice, curated list Stg. I'm long on motorized things and p-cars at the moment, but if I were in the market, I'd be all over this thread. Hell, I'm here looking at it and not even remotely in the market.

Hopefully it's fun for you.

There's a lot of lurkers here! I love seeing all the different combinations of cars and featuring the unique ones for Rennlisters on the hunt.

There have been quite a few guys who bought cars they saw here.

This thread is over 80K views in 6 months. Almost #3 of all time most read thread on the 991 forum!

Fun facts

The launch year for the 991.1 was year 2012.5

There are 997.2 and 991.1 models in 2012

The 2012.5 991's included the Carrera and Carrera S. Both coupes and cabs.

The 4S didn't come out until 2013.

The Aerokit package options were not available until 2013 as well.

PASM is standard on all S models which is 10mm lower than a base model Carrera.

Sport PASM is an option and lowers the car by an additional 10mm more than PASM.

The 991.1 story

The end of an era. The last NA (naturally aspirated) engine in the street (non GT model) 911's. The end of the deep breathing, high revving, screaming classic 911 flat 6 engine. Others can try and imitate, but it will ever be duplicated.

Call it progress, always better than the last, more torque, or better MPG. I call it death of an era. Good news? There will always be "hot for sale" cars. Whether a 991.1, 997, 993, etc. Enjoy your now "classic" Porsche It's in good company.

------------------------------------------
The 991 is an entirely new platform, only the third platform since the original 911.

Porsche revealed basic information on the 991 Carrera and Carrera S on 23 August 2011. The Carrera is powered by a 350 hp (257 kW) 3.4-litre engine. The Carrera S features a 3.8-litre engine producing 400 hp (294 kW). A Power Kit (option X51) is available for the Carrera S, increasing power to 430 hp. The new 991's overall length grows by 2.2 inches and wheelbase grows by 3.9 inches (now 96.5 in.) Overhangs are trimmed and the rear axle moves rearward roughly 3 in. toward the engine (made possible by new 3-shaft transmissions whose output flanges are moved closer to the engine). There is a wider front track (2.0 inches wider for the Carrera S). The design team was headed by Michael Mauer.

At the front, the new 991 has very wide-set headlights that are more three-dimensional. Front fender peaks are a bit more prominent, and wedgy directionals now appear to float above the intakes for the twin coolant radiators. The stretched rear 3/4 view has changed the most, with a slightly more voluminous form and thin taillight slivers capped with the protruding lip of the bodywork. The biggest and main change in the interior is the center console, inspired by the Carrera GT and adopted by the Panamera.

The 991 is the first 911 to use predominantly aluminum construction. This means that even though the car is larger than the outgoing model, it is still up to 50 kilograms (110 lb) lighter. The reduced weight and increased power means that both the Carrera and Carrera S are appreciably faster than the outgoing models.

The 0 to 60 mph time for the manual transmission cars are 4.6 seconds for the Carrera and 4.3 seconds for the Carrera S. When equipped with PDK the 991 models can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and 4.1 seconds for the Carrera and Carrera S respectively. With the optional sports chrono package, available in cars with the PDK transmission, the 991 Carrera can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.2 seconds and the Carrera S can do the same in 3.9 seconds.

Apart from the reworked PDK transmission, the new 991 is also equipped with an industry-first 7-speed manual transmission with rev-matching. A new feature with the manual transmission is that it blips the throttle during downshifts (if in Sport Plus mode). Also, the 7th gear cannot be engaged unless the car is already in 5th or 6th gear.

The new cars also have a number of technologies aimed at improving handling. The cars include a torque vectoring system (standard on the Carrera S and optional on the Carrera) which brakes the inner wheel of the car when going into turns. This helps the car turn-in quicker and with more precision. The cars also feature hydraulic engine mounts which help reduce the inertia of the engine when going into turns as part of the optional sports chrono package.

Active suspension management is standard on the Carrera S and optional on the Carrera. This helps improve ride quality on straights, while stiffening the suspension during aggressive driving. The new 991 is also equipped with a new feature called Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and Porsche claims that this new feature alone has shaved 4-seconds off the standard car's lap time around the Nurburgring. PDCC helps the car corner flat and is said to improve high-speed directional stability and outright lateral body control but according to several reviews, the car is more prone to understeer when equipped with this new technology.

Thanks!

I think the price gap between S/4S will get smaller as time goes on. It's been hard to find great deals on them. Plus they didn't come out in 2012.5 either. Started 2013. Still, the searches aren't easy for any nice cars at reasonable prices.

Smart dealers that like to move cars price them competitively. There are ALOT of overpriced ones sitting on lots right now.

Why buy new? You don't like $$$

Buying preowned isn't for everyone, but has its advantages obviously. With so many options, it's HARD finding everything on ones "wish list". Sometimes, you have to make compromises. Many times guys that order new have regrets of getting/not getting certain options too.

Can't beat the Porsche dealer CPO either!
