I have no love for dealers, but buying a used car is inherently caveat emptor. The CPO program is designed to minimize fraud and misrepresentation. That said, it is not perfect.

Use good judgement. As a rule of thumb, paying a modest premium for a low-mileage one-owner used 991 with a clean CarFax protects you from a lot of heartache. It's not a perfect formula, but it’s pretty solid.

If you're trying to save $5k on a 991.1, perhaps you should consider a different car. An extra $5k is often the difference between a gem and a lemon, and I speak as a reformed impulsive used car buyer. It’s not as though private parties are all scrupulous sellers. In fact, I’d argue they’re far from it!
