Who says the manual transmission is dead?

Long live the MT.

That was an option that cars used to have in 2010.

Being 2040 now, you can read about how they worked on Wikipedia.

The abbreviation NA will soon join it.

"In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell

MT used to mean Manual Transmission. Then they automated throttle matching eliminating the need for throttle skills, and added hill holding, eliminating the need for clutch skills. Activities requiring no skills are by definition menial. So now MT stands for Menial Transmission.

Its more about the man, and the look on his face- almost as if he just read your post.

This is old news but people are slow to catch on so I'll review again. A manual transmission is more than a clutch and lever. It is also a gearbox designed to be operated by a pedal and lever controlling a single clutch plate. But what Porsche uses is a gearbox that was designed to be electronically actuated, with dual concentric clutches.

Don't take my word for it, go look it up for yourself. See if you don't find that almost all the parts in the Menial Transmission aren't identical to PDK. The way they are laid out is nothing like what would be used in a true manual design. The Menial is not a manual. Its a dumbed-down PDK.

Oh please....what a crock. Coming from the guy who doesn't own a 991, probably hasn't driven one, but loves to agitate here.

I love the gear change in my 991. It is not a Honda gear change, but I wouldn't want it to be in a 400 horsepower car. Whether it is a modified PDK or not, it works perfectly for me. Tiff Needell said that he liked it just as much as the one in the 997, and his opinion carries a lot of weight with me.

Bingo. I like to drive my car, not watch it drive itself. I no more want the car to operate its own clutch than I want it to steer or brake. "But it's faster than you'll ever be" is not compelling to me. I'm conducting a symphony, I'm not about to turn over the entire woodwind section to a Macbook.

In a few years, Chuck will show up at the track with his new "sports car", and he'll get out and sit down in a lawn chair with his friends and they'll all take out their smartphones and tap an icon, and their "sports cars" will all take off and race each other around the track as Chuck and his pals drink choco-tinis with their pinkies extended and talk about what an awesome day they're having racing their cars, and how they're so happy those "menial tasks" of shifting, clutching, steering, braking, and generally being involved in anything at all are things of the distant past.
