Reportedly, the software that controls the transmission will not allow you to downshift to a gear that would induce a mechanical over rev.

Moving on... does anyone know when the rev limiter kicks in? At red line? Ot s it red line + X00 RPM? I have never heard that mentioned on any forum.
OK, then Porsche is gracious enough to allow some stupidity.

Depends if you have Sport Chrono. SC yields a harder redline before the rev limiter trips.

They should. As a smart buyer, you should ask for the report.

If the over-revs were register before the car was certified I don't think the new owner will have any problems showing the dealer he wasn't responsable.

I'm on my second 991 TTS. The first was a dealer's demo car with ~250 miles, which I purchased pending delivery of my 'to order' car. TT of course comes with PDK.

The demo car had rev range 1 and 2 ignitions recorded, occurring prior to my purchase, as I asked for a VAL report to be done immediately prior to collection.

Upon seeing the rev range 1 and 2 ignitions, I required a letter on the OPC letterhead, signed by the DP as authorised agent for the dealer entity, stating that:

1. The rr 1 and 2 ignitions occurred prior to my ownership,
2. The ignitions would not impact/impair/invalidate the manufacturer warranty;
3. The ignitions would not be taken into account to adjust or vary the pre-agreed px value of that car against car 2.

The sales personnel were trying to tell me it was all fine as PDK prevents overevs. I said "in that case, as you think it's all fine, sign here or no sale today - your call."

Attached is a 991 VAL. The "over revs" are on p.69. I can't see any any launch control usage logging, (but I haven't read every line.....).

But when (at what RPM) does the rev limiter activate... 1) with SC, and 2 without SC?

I have been unable to get this information.

I have seen my tach. bounce into the red before shifting when in full auto mode on consecutive shifts at WOT. And not just once either, so how is porsche not going to honor warranty on that?

wanderfalke, where'd you get the idea that range 1/2 ignitions would invalidate coverage? They don't care at all about 1 & 2, and even 3 & 4 are merely "potentially problematic" which is a whole different meaning than "voiding". The 911Virgin article with the answer has been linked here several times. Here, I'll run it again:

See http://www.911virgin.com/porsche/rev-range-information/ where it says:
"Current Porsche warranty procedure considers activity in ranges 3 and 4 to be potentially problematic with compression tests and / or oil checks deemed necessary for incursions within the last 200 operating hours. However, in a pragmatic relaxation of previous protocol vehicles with activity in ranges 5 and 6 will be considered for extended warranty provided the over rev activity occurred more than 200 operating hours ago."
Bear in mind range 6 is a whopping 2,000 RPM past redline! My reading of this is they are saying if you zing it and it breaks, you blew it. But if you zing it and it runs fine over 200 hrs, then you dodged a bullet. Which makes sense. After all, 200 hrs at 50 mph works out to 10,000 miles.
