Excitement for the new GTS?
I can't help but feel a little disappointed. Its amazing how many of you guys predicted exactly what this car would be/have options-wise. I don't plan on switching to Chevrolet, but I look at the Z06 and see that Chev pulled out all the stops and did everything it could to make that car as bad *** as possible for a great price. I wish instead of just dribbling out the power and options Porsche could do the same for once. Having said this, I'll probably buy one if it is the last normally aspirated manual transmission

I think Porsche has done "bad-***" twice in the recent past; the 991 GT3 and Turbo/Turbo S. But at a great price? C'mon, this is Porsche we're talking about.
Personally, I thought there were a lot of unrealistic expectations heaped upon the GTS. I never believed that rear wheel steering, a new exhaust system, more than 430 hp, etc were ever in the picture. This GTS is what the last GTS was -- existing components and features, in a different combination that was available on the S. The moment I saw the 50th Anniversary I said what other posters have said: "change the paint, wheels and upholstery and there's the next GTS."
The next quantum leap won't come in this generation of 991, and I really don't expect drastic changes for the 991.2. Will rws ever make it to the "ordinary" 911's? Will naturally aspirated engines go the way of the dodo? Will manual transmissions eventually disappear? The answer to all of those may be "yes" but we won't know for quite a while.
Of all the car companies out there, I think Porsche is just about the most incremental in its improvements. They come at a measured pace, that's for sure.

The 991 Turbo and Turbo S = dentist and banker cruisers. No thanks.
A 997.2 GT3 or GT3 RS + a 991 GTS seems like an almost unbeatable combo to me until we start talking hypercars.

Quite frankly I find the 991 GT3 to be the boy-racer model of the 991 with a few improved driving dynamics but greatly reduced utility and a design that every female I asked thought was "ugly." Granted I don't buy cars based on women's opinions but I actually agree with them in this instance. The 991 GT3 isn't close to the differentiation that previous GT3 models had from the Carrera and in my opinion isn't worth the sacrifices in utility anymore.

I was waiting for this.... and I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed. Not sure what I was expecting. But looking at my modded 991S, it;s stance (lowered), wheels, and added power (minor) with exhaust modifications I see no reason to switch things up to move to a GTS. Kinda disappointed.

I'm not really disappointed as I expected to basically be a parts-bin 991S + X51.
In my utopia I was kinda hoping for the PDK-S but I knew that wouldn't really happen.
Oh well, it's still a beauty. Not worth moving from a 991S/4S but still a beauty.

i think it also serves the purpose of taking some of the "work" out of speccing out a 911 ... 1st world problems. if you take off our jaded forum-boy glasses, its a pretty stunning looking car

It's a nice model, is it something that has made me think oh god I have to sell my C2S and get it, no way.
The only thing that I wish I had that the GTS has is the powerkit HP bump.

I've been underwhelmed by the GTS since driving the 997 version. The main thing it shows is clever Porsche marketing. They take what is basically a glorified options package, dress it up with a few wanna-be racer makeup items, present it as the next best thing to a GT3 and everybody goes bananas. Of course it is a perfectly good car- there are no bad 991's- but geez Louise! It is exactly what someone said, a 50 with different wheels, paint and upholstery! (Except, in unlimited numbers. And they'll be making more every few years…)

Exactly. Just like the Cayman GTS. It's a nice car, but many folks here have spec'd pretty much the same thing. Not sure why all the fanfare. I guess the marketing guys need to come up with something.
