Three reasons for the fanfare: "G", "T" and "S". You can spec all the options you want. You can't spec those three letters. To your average informed RL'er its a nice options package. To the remaining (99.9%) of potential buyers its a new model. Lets see there's the 991 without the letter, the 991 with the letter "S" (lotta those around) and the race car. Oh, and now there's this new one. I'll get the new one! It has three letters- even more than the race car!- and without the wing thingy wifey can't stand. Cool! Sheer marketing genius.

Pretty much exactly what I expected. Not sure why some are surprised.

I'm not a dentist or a banker, but I have a 991 turbo and love it.

As for the GTS, I too am not surprised. The basic formula for every Porsche GTS model has been an empty the parts bin approach with a louder exhaust, nothing else.

I was looking forward to it to get the GTS interior bling for $3600; now I see they also require some Communications package nonsense for another $4000 and basically steal any value there. With my configuration costing $128k before a discount I'm just gonna stick with my CPO C2S or trade if for a 997.2 3rs

Decent deal for anyone that doesn't have a 991 yet I guess.

Center lock wheels alone are enough reason to avoid it entirely. Alcantara is a good second reason to stay away.

I agree with that ^ because I dislike both, but you can go leather interior and 5 lug Carrera S wheels, which cabn also be ordered in silver at no additional charge.

Five lugs Carrera S wheels are a free option and the black paint is free as well. Alcantara is a free delete.

realistically, if you're building a c2s and you go from standard s wheel to a painted turbo, its an upcharge of around $3500...when you go backwards from the turbo s wheel to the s wheel, its free!!! they're learning from the construction industry...

Default Here is an idea!

I wish they would have an X51 option on the X51, ie 460 hp in this chassis that weighs 3100 lbs. Come on Porsche... You could squeeze another 18K out of me for this car!

They already have that option. It's called the base Turbo.

I disagree. I think the "old chevy" was much more attractive. The new one looks like something out of a Transformers movie, or something that a child came up with. No question it's the best bang for the buck performance-wise, but for aesthetics and quality of components, it's still a Chevy.

As for the GTS, I never understood why everyone gets all excited about a parts-bin marketing exercise with a few extra horsepower. To my eye, the tartan seats in the anniversary model are neat and some of the other little things they did make it unique, but all that badging detracts from the effect. Again, it's all about marketing. Just ask the Motorsport folks over at BMW.

for me its a couple of things:

1) wide body chassis with 2WD - GTS only

2) "parts bin" consolidation discounts, X51 and some bling bundled saves a few $'s ... never to be sneezed at

I'm Scottish - tartan belongs on kilts and *maybe* scarves ... *never* seats!
