Default Engine Fires and GT3 values

What effect if any do you think replacing the engine on a new GT3 will have on its resale value? I would be concerned that the demand for the cars that require engine replacements will have decreased values compared to those vehicles that come from the factory with the modified engines.

Zero. Zip. Nada.
Anyone whose GT3 catches fire in the future show feel quite confident in their position and the subsequent push-back from Corporate.

If anything I'd feel more confident buying a used GT3 with a replaced engine.

Current GT3 owners will be just fine. Rare car. High demand. And they are being compensated (around $20k) to take some of the sting away. Go watch the GT3 video that was driving around at 9,000 RPM on Rennlist last week. ******* amazing.

What makes you think the new engine will be up to it? Only time will tell, most including many existing owners took the option of changing their car as they lost confidence in this model, getting it back will require time.

+10.

Watch Sam from Texas's vid on the back roads near Plano. Good lord ! Awesome.

Don't expect to get a 14 GT3 for a discount any time soon. I'm waiting until Dec.

If you read up on it Mondrian you will learn that the engine's did not mysteriously "catch fire" as so many comments make it appear. What happened was a few con-rod end bolts broke, which would then crack the case, dumping oil on the exhaust, which caught fire. One specific known weak part, which due to its location requires complete tear-down to replace, so Porsche did the cost-effective (and right) thing and replaced all the engines. People can speculate whether this was a case of Porsche getting bad bolts, or the bolts being under-spec'd, or whatever. But the bottom line remains that its been fixed and so all GT3's have brand new correct spec engine's.

Of course one can always argue the new engine's may not be any more "up to it" than the original ones, but that's never been the way it works with Porsche. The porous 996 cases for example, once fixed, those turned out to be very reliable performers.

What seems much more likely to happen is the GT3 turns out to be another great GT3. The following grows. But the recall led to fewer sales. Fewer GT3's to meet the demand that will be there once more people understand the story is likely to lead to very strong value in the years ahead.

Make sense?

Howaboutit, Marcus! I swear he passed some of those SUVs twice.

Here was his conversation with the Police:

Police- "Do you know why I pulled you over, son?"

Sam From Texas- "No I do not, officer."

Police- "Well, you were speeding, son!"

Sam From Texas- "I was not speeding, officer, I was just low flying!"

If I was in the market for a GT3 I'd rather hold on to my hard earned cash and wait for GT3 991.2 by which time GT3 991 would be out of warranty ...

I see what you are saying Chuck and many will adopt that stance but hope you see what I am saying and the fact that many more might see it my way.

Previous generations of GT3s all had issues, some of them more significant and "catastrophic" than the engine fire recall issue with the 991 GT3.

The 996 and 997 generation GT3 (all iterations) seem to be doing fine on the resale market.

I was not aware that 996 & 7 GT3's had more catastrophic issues than "total recall" (in 1st year) and all production, distribution stopping, what was it?

BTW has any auto manufacturer ever compensated its customers to the tune of $20k, and will that have an effect on the resale value which is technically $20k less than MSRP?
