Crack in the windshield...
#2
My 997.2 GTS was hit by a paint can two years ago (long story) - dealer replacement was around $1200 Insurance paid all but my deductible. I assume 991 price will be similar.
CAVEAT: I had a terrible experience with my windshield. It took repeated attempts to get it done right. The bottom line was don't let anyone but a dealer do the work. Make sure you get factory, not after-market glass. Avoid Safelite, etc.

I remember reading a thread where someone had it covered under warranty because it is a stress crack. Not being hit by something.
Apparently, you run a ball point pen along the crack. If you did not feel a chip, it is a stress crack.

Mine looks more like a typical crack, but without a rockchip. Not so much an explosion unfortunately.
PCA discount gets a new windshield for $677 plus install. The stealer doesnt install. They outsource it. Anyone have any thoughts on using the stealer recommended installer?

Maybe its because I live in NY, but any time I've ever had a crack for any reason, insurance covered it and I didn't pay a dime. Usually Safelite does the install.

make sure whoever your dealer uses has experience with 991's. There are many windshield glass installers who just don't know the nuances of installing a Porsche windshield properly. When I had a windshield replaced on my 997 C4S, it took 3 installs to get it right. The dealer's installer just didn't know the right technique. I had to get a different installer that was recommended to me by a different dealer to do it right.

Windshield Replacement
State Farm has the WORST glass coverage available. They won't
even write a "Glass" police rider in Kansas.
I just paid my $1,000 deductible to replace the windshield in
my Ferrari F430. The good news is that the replacement
windshield from Italy was $4,867. Safelite did the instillation
based on Ferrari dealer recommendation. Perfect job.

The dealers in my area do not replace windshield themselves.... they have someone come in and do it.

I had the same issue, dealer checked it and identified it was an actual impact.
Here in SC windshield replacement is covered 100% by insurance with no deductible/increase in rate. I think the finals bill was around $900 for OEM replacement.
btw - The dealer used a ball point pen to run down the crack and it was easy to see/feel where the impact actually occurred on the crack even though it was difficult to see visually.
cheers

Burning Brakes
Knock on wood, I've picked up a couple of small chips in my 25K miles on the 991 but so far nothing that even required repairing. If I ever do have to replace it, I've had great experience in the past on other cars with a one-man shop right in my neighborhood.
