WINDOW EXPLOSION
This is my first 911 and nothing like this has ever happened to me in any car I have owned.
I was driving on the freeway (70 mph) in dry clear conditions. There were no cars on either side of me and I was not passing under an overpass. Out of nowhere, my window just exploded. It sounded like a gunshot, scared the you know what out of me. I imagine most of the glass is on the freeway, but as you can see much of it is still in the car and in the window frame.
My dealership is not open tomorrow, but I will be there at 0730 on Monday AM. I presume this would be a free repair/replacement.
Anyone with any knowledge of similar events occurring?

Did you report it to the police? I mention that because I would not rule out that someone caused this by throwing/shooting something at you.

DrJay - thanks for the reply. I did not call the police as I was not in a part of town that I felt comfortable stopping on the side of the road in at 10pm. I was 5 miles from my friend's place that I was headed to, and 20 miles from my place. I just went back home.
I was on a 4 lane highway, I was in the second lane from the left. There were no cars in the lane on my immediate right, there was a car two lanes away on my right. It'd be an amazing shot to leave no evidence I'd imagine

You need to call the Highway Patrol. Write down what you remember now. Time, place, etc.
Two late teen/early 20 year old punks were recently sentenced for similar asshatery in northern California with pellet guns. Hit the glass. Leave no evidence.
They terrorized a section of highway for weeks.
Sorry that this happened to you but that window didn't just break.
You were hit by a projectile.

Ditto.
Insurance, not warranty. Good luck. It is Cleveland, you know.
Sorry.

That was definitely caused by some projectile hitting the window. Even if you weren't the target, a stray bullet fired from a mile away or more could have hit you. You're lucky that you didn't lose control when that occurred. Good concentration! The glass that falls into the door is the most difficult and annoying thing to deal with. Make sure the dealer really cleans the interior of the door well. There's nothing more annoying than having some stray glass sliding back and forth inside the door when you are driving after the fix.

Insurance. Comp claim (you were hit by a moving object, you did NOT hit a stationary object). Make this clear to your insurance company. Makes a difference for a comp claim vs a collision claim. Better glass than paint.

Took the car into the dealer and this AM the service guy said it doesn't look like they can prove one way or another whether it was Porsche defect or an outside hit. Tells me he'll call me back later to let me know how much it'll be to replace. Calls me back at noon to say he e-mailed with the factory Porsche rep and they will be replacing the window under warranty. In my mind I figured it was going to cost me at least $1,000, so this is great news.

Good to hear Porsche is stepping up. I imagine they'll send someone out to do some forensics in case there was a defect in the window glass.
