Just got my copy of Car and Driver where they rank the Corvette higher than the 991S by rating the Corvette 20 on price and the 911 as 1. What B.S. does anyone buy a 911 or Corvette for that matter based on relative value? If you take price out of the equation the 911 smokes it.

There is a very good post about this same C&D write up on the 997 Forum.

if my Aunt had ***** she would be my Uncle...
Right Like when P owners use the "value" word when our cars are comped to something more expensive, like a Ferrari.
The Vette s/b comped w/ a Cayman Base Stick, w/ like options.

I haven't read this one, don't read as much of this stuff in general any more. For a goos 20+ years though I did. And I could be wrong but it always seemed to me that C&D was the 'vette mag while the 911 had stolen hearts and minds at R&T. Reading between the lines there are always little, and sometimes not so little, giveaways. This time it could be the 20 vs 1 value score. As if its possible to drive these cars and not notice the incredible value built in a thousand ways into the 991. They don't show up in track times but in the way the car flows down the road, something mentioned in one way or another in virtually every review and that can only be attained by engineering and fabrication skills far beyond anything that ever came out of GM. Or, more than likely, ever will. But the 'vette needs to win, so 20:1 it is.
Its not just C&D. I seem to recall some months back a Lotus or something that R&T said it rattled, whistled, and its transmission wasn't even up to handling a parking lot, but hey its better than a 991. I think it was April, and the piece was so ludicrous it had people wondering if it was their annual April Fools road test. They all just need to do a certain amount of this stuff. Its in the job description.

How do you put wife and kids in a Corvette?
I give zero to the Vette in comfort and praticability?
Maybe now Porsche will put a real engine on the Cayman and let it be the 2seater to beat the Corvette.

I would have picked the issue up for the 50th Anniversary 911 coverage, but when they (I think un-)wisely decided to make the front cover the C7, that pretty much screwed the issue as pick-up collectible for me.
That said, they seemed to like the 911 better but said the C7 is a better value and makes more sense...
On the Edmunds video side, the C7 is 'as capable as they thought it was going to be' - but the Cayman S is the car the driver would choose for normal tracking, the Mustang for going sideways on the track... So not really what I'd call a C7 or 911 endorsement.
Anyway, as others have said too, if competition means Porsche is forced to upgrade their cars more quickly and/or offer better value, I'm all for it.. I still wouldn't get the 'vette.

The Vette and the Porsche still have the same sort of similar performance, bang for buck and design/quality relationship they have had for about 50 years. Great cars, great rivals on the track and street. When they overcome the orange peel, the Vette will have turned a corner. If I had the room, I might add one.

Not sure if what some magazine says is in any way matching reality. Haven't driven that particular Vette - but the ones in the past have been great as long as you're driving in a straight line
Forget about matching a P car in performance in the real world (meaning corners). I personally will never be driving a Vette or a Viper - don't like the look, the performance, and the build quality and overall engineering isn't anywhere near a P car. Just my biased opinions, some people obviously adore them.

Lets face it, Porsche doesn't have to charge their "PORSCHE TAX" on everything because the manufacture it. It's getting Silly too.
Base price for the 991 Turbo is something like $147K?. That like almost $11K more than the 997. They were talking about taking is "UP MARKET". But all they are really doing at the end of the day, VW group included too, is we are taking up our "BACK BOTTOMS" as Jeremy Clarkson might say.
While at Wally World Today I picked up some other magazine where they tested 20 something Cars for all sorts of stuff, 20 in total I think - stiff competition. First time they had a Back to Back winner and the funny thing is is the manufacturer did a make-over of the car. This was one of the more popular American Car magazines. I'll take a moment to look at google to see if I can get a name... I dunno I think it might have been motor trend.
