Default Drove a new Cayman today

I know there was a previous thread on the Cayman/991 debate. Our local dealer had a Cayman test drive & BBQ this afternoon. The wife & I went down to check it out. I've been without a Pcar for a couple years (sold my 997.1 S) & have had my heart set on a 991. I must admit, the new Cayman is a very impressive car. We drove the S & the fun factor was there in abundance. The improvements to the 991 have definitely carried over to the Cayman. The balance of power/handling/comfort are all there. I've kind of poo pood the thought of owning a Cayman but now am having 2nd thoughts. Very impressive!

Haven't driven the new Cayman yet, but there's no question it's a fine car. It's a mid-engined Porsche. Not sure why everyone is always trying to make this an either / or thing. They're both great cars.

But for my money, there's only one 911. I didn't grow up wanting a Cayman when I was kid...

did the Cayman exist when you were growing up?

I agree, the car is very impressive and very attractive now.
However I just simply want more power.

There's about a $20K differance between the sticker price of a Cayman S and 991. A high performance shop that specializes in Porsches shouldn't have any problem getting an additional 30HP in the Cayman S for about $5K- $6K which brings it up to the 350 of the base 991. Of course you can add a lot more HP but you better have deep pockets.

Haha...no, it definitely didn't. I had a red "Flachbau" 930 poster on my wall next to a Corvette ZR1 one.

Cayman is a great car but I know I would miss the extra thrust, too.

Edit: Memory is fading, but I'm pretty sure this was the poster.

I drove both the Cayman and 911 back to back at the Porsche driving experience. The Cayman doesn't have enough power for me. I really wish that dang car had the 3.8l as an option.

Baddazz.....they should bring that bodystyle back, but with the new 991 interior! I had a similar poster on my wall, next to Farrah Fawcett in her red suit!

I think it was a slant nose, not a flat nose.

My former bedroom in my parents house is a shrine to my childhood. The Focker's have nothing on this! The red slant nose poster is still up there -- next time I'm home I'll take a picture and share here. When I ordered my 991 six months ago my mother asked me, "Why that particular car?" Then she turned around and saw the poster on the wall and said, "Now I understand!"

Drove the cayman (including the S) and many of the Porsche cars (991C2S C4S, Panamera GT, and even the Cayenne, etc...) back to back at the Road Show last week. The cayman is very impressive all around. It's easy to drive thru the turns whether you come in slow / fast or exit slow / fast. The 991 of course is best coming fast out out of the turns. Cayman's suspension isn't quite as firm as the 991 and it's not quite as planted at the rear, but it is deceivingly fast and easy to drive, and I have no doubt that with a few more horse power and a firmer suspension it would give the 991 a serious run for it's money (or beat it). And it can be had with similar trim for 1/3 less than the 991. I love the new look (much better and a much more serious car than the previous generation) and if I didn't have a 991 I would give it a VERY serious look. Only downside is the Cayman still doesn't have the charisma of the 911 or those magic rear seats which make the car just right for me.

Cheers ...

The magic rear seats...allow me to share the experience with my 8 and 6 year old boys. They have had the honor of driving around with me in the 997 and now the 991. They routinely tell me to drop the hammer, and love hearing the engine behind them.

My wife grew up sitting behind her dad in his 1973 911t, so it has come full circle
