I'm considering a lot of non-Porsche alternatives for my next car. Too much performance in other vehicles out there, including ones that aren't even dedicated sports cars. Compare the M5 to a similarly priced non-turbo Panamera. Look at the performance gap. Or even more sad, compare that Panamera performance to the old/outgoing M3 that is $20-30k cheaper depending on specs. Looking forward to the next M3 out soon. This is just one example where Porsche is necessarily depending on non-performance aspects to attract buyers over other cars out there. And honestly in the Panamera example I don't think they're relying on aesthetics either.
Corvette & Viper have impressive performance and the interiors are improving.
The other factor not mentioned so far is the ever increasing price of new Porsches. If I bought the current model with same specs as my 997 it would be nearly 3 times the value of my current car. No chance I'm trading up for that.

Test drive the 2013 Lexus GS350 F-sport (RWD version). It's stunning--an amazing machine, both in its handling and build quality...for $55K

So which car came first with 7-speed MT + rev-matching? Was it the 991 or the C7?
On a serious note, I've heard that the rev-matching tech in the 'Vette is patented and is different from the other rev-matching tech you find in some other cars, even the 991. Could somebody explain how it works and how it is different from the rev-matching tech you get in the 370Z and the 991?

But it is a very direct route for bits to flow, rather than up the arm to the brain and down the spine to the left foot and back to the brain and down to the right foot, etc, etc).

Ok, just got back from a VIR event in the 997. I held my own out there and passed a checkout ride to move to the highest run group. But guess which car passed me most often? The Vette!

I asked a C6 owner how he liked the C7 at Cars N Coffee this wekend and had an ear chewed off.
"Its a @&**!@$ Ferrar-o- mero monster, etc etc...blips the throttle like a @&**!@$ Datsun, etc, etc... keeping my C6 forever, etc etc..."
Geesh, almost as bad a when the 991 came out.

Dr jay has proven hes a sucker for the prestige bull**** that porsche puts out, and i think i can say that having owned to date, including my 991 s cab, 47 porsches. We all are too some degree.
Theyre good cars and overpriced due to lack of competition. Vette does have objective issues to address however.
Ive only owned one vette a z06 in 2006 ? cant remember year when they came out. I bolted gt3 seats to the floor the seats were so bad, and the vette guy that bought if from me at 4800 miles (i couldnt face going to a chevy dealer for an oil change at 5k) decided to keep them!
Ive ordered my coupe z51 with paddle shift. This car is a screamin performance deal, albeit with no snob appeal. The price is so low because the taxpayers are subsidising the rest is my bet.
I guarantee porsche is running scared. I normally would be buying a turbo s right now and ive ordered a coupe and two convertibles from vette country. Not a good sign for overpriced snobbery, and pardon me porsche has been ripping us blind for years:
Paying for a sport exhaust on a sports car
$5 k for the burmeister (outstanding stereo)
Etc
I thought this would be an evaluative thread on the car itself, perhaps that is possible
